I posted a similar question in the composer category, but what does it mean that a score is the "best?" Are you nominating something because it worked really well in the context of the film, or because it makes great listening music on its own? Or are some nods there because the music is a souvenir for a movie you liked, which would totally be one of my criteria if I could think of a single thing to nominate. _________________ I have a book coming out. Personally since we are here for the music I will nominate a score that is great to listen to. I like a lot of scores from 2010 even I have not seen the movie. _________________ That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne)

I like your question LadyInque. It's making me rethink my nominations and I stick behind them. I also noticed that the same 4 scores I nominated were also used in my decision for composer of the year.
For Harry Potter and Dragon, part of my nomination is coming from my love of the movies, but the other part is coming from the fact that I can listen to the scores on their own and remember exactly what was happening in the movie.
Alice and Inception both played major parts in the actual movie for me - the scores really enhanced my viewing experience. While I don't listen to them quite as much, I still enjoy playing them while I read or do housework.
So really I'm nominating each for their own reason - not really following one set of guidelines when making my choice. _________________ Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die tomorrow. - James Dean |

-Inception by Hans Zimmer.
-the Pillars of the Earth by Trevor Morris

I also find it hard to get excited about this category, since I feel it will go to How to Train Your Dragon. |
While I agree that "Dragon" will ultimately be crowned the winner this year, I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet. It's funny - while I was watching the movie, I kept thinking "This is really great music" - and yet when I listened to the entire album, it seemed pretty standard stuff by Powell. Not that that's a bad thing.
So I would like to nominate these two albums from Trevor Morris:
The Tudors - Season 3
The Tudors - Season 4
What a phenomenal job he did on one of the best series ever produced for television. The production values were absolutely incredible! And so was the acting .. and the costumes ... and the special effects .. and did I mention the music? |

I nominate How to Train Your Dragon. Not that it needs it, but I still felt the need to add to it. |

In my mind there is only one best Sound Track from last year. Not only does it fit the film perfectly, it is just a great all around listen at any time.
