Now for some 'bad' news. I am looking for a way to join this great gathering too.
If so, I will be flying in on friday and fly back to Europe again on monday (or maybe visit Richmond on the way back).
So you might have the possibility to have all 3 musketeers together again.
There's a small charterplane that flies from Portland to Astoria but that's inconvenient in timeschedule (besides expensive) so if I can join a ride from Portland Airport with Twopop or Jaded's pick up that would ease the pain.
And, Cinder: it's too late in the season for whalewatching right? and do they have a mountain that's not covered in clouds
Would be fantastic if I could join _________________

DB depending what time you arrive, we can pick you up at Portland Airport (maybe first eat some Buffalo Burger on the airport, like I did with Twopop after I arrived there in 2008). _________________ That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne)

Astoria is celebrating its Bicentennial this year! It was founded on April 11, 1811.
There are many activities and exhibits planned from May thru September. It should be a GREAT time for tourists to visit. Read more in the Oregonian newspaper:
Astoria plans a May-to-September party to celebrate its bicentennial.
I realize that by European standards, 200 years isn't very old. (Actually even by Eastern US standards.) But still, it's a great excuse for a party, and historically very interesting.
Of course you all know that Astoria is named after John Jacob Astor.
Astor was born in Germany in 1763, grew up in England, and became a very wealthy business man in America after the Revolutionary War. He owned fur trading companies from the Great Lakes and Canada to the American West and Pacific Coast. When he died, he was worth over $20 million dollars, which by today's standards was well into the billions.
His great-grandson John Jacob Astor IV, age 47, went down on the Titanic. He and his new bride, age 17, were traveling to America so their first child could be born in the US. |

I am getting concerned about lodging. I just found out there is another event in Astoria on Sept. 2 They close the bridge or half of it and folks walk it!! Yippy.
I wanted to keep the price as low as I could for a nice place. This place I have stayed at before and will go again for Mother's Day weekend. I want to make more decisions, but have to see it to book it.
The best deal the fella gave me was two people-2 beds for $86.90 that is tax included.
what I need to know is who will share !
Using our chat names I am not sure of a couple folks..
So PM me with details. Tim and I will be in on Friday, stay through Monday am.
Let me know what you are planning!!!
Here is the motel.http://www.columbiainnastoria.com/index.html _________________ A good sound track will let me relive the movie, I can cry over them as well. Hand me the tissues...please. |
