Of course, coming from The Sun puts in in a whole new realm of fantasy anyway Wink

I would just like to go on the record and say it's not fair that, due to the reruns shown on the Memorial Day holiday, we in the US are now a week behind our Whovian sisters and brothers in the UK, and must wait a week for the finale episode.

That is all.

PS: I'm really enjoying this series so far.

A question for the fans here:

My bride and I have not seen anything Dr. Who related (and only vaguely understand the premise), but are interested in watching. Where would you suggest we start? Bonus points if it's available via Netflix streaming in the US.

Discuss. (And thanks for your suggestions.)

Start with the 1st season after the relaunch. That would be Christopher Ecclestone as the ninth doctor. The series started in 2005.

First, I repost this for j2, and any others who have never seen Doctor Who:
http://www.comicsalliance.com/2010/07/02/doctor-who-rap-song/

I think, as a rule of thumb, any time they change Doctors makes for a good jumping-on point. One could, conceivably, begin with Matt Smith. His arcs so far are fairly self-contained. Of course, series 5 just wasn't that good. But the theme music for that Doctor is my favorite.

That's good advice, LadyI.

J2, I'm a relative newbie to the Doctor Who fan club, but you will really be missing some of the most awesome episodes if you don't see David Tennant as the Doctor (along with his interesting companions Rose Tyler, Donna Noble, etc.) The chemistry is really palpable - and most of the stories very interesting. His run was from 2005-2010.

I know Nen will put me up for Dalek target practice for saying this, but I just am not a big Matt Smith fan - even 6 episodes into this season. Sad Embarassed

To really get the most of the new series, start with the Christopher Ecclestone episodes and move forward from there. I just gets better and better.

If you don't want to spend that long to catch up, starting with the Matt Smith episodes would be fine too. They're a kind of reboot in themselves as you don't really have to see the previous seasons at all (except for one major plot point briefly touched on in season 4, one minor plot point touched on in season 3, and the odd off comment).

I do believe you'll get a greater taste for the Doctor if you start from 2005 and onwards, though. It certainly did the trick for me Smile

Thanks for the input, everybody! I'd already added the 2005 series to my instant queue, so I seem to have stumbled upon the popular answer. Not sure when we'll get a chance to start it, but I'm looking forward to it.

The upside is, j2, each series (season) is only, what, 13 episodes? Half the length of an American season of anything. So it takes less time to watch a complete story, though there are still occasional dud episodes. I think I speak for everyone here when I wish you enjoyment. Let us know what you think! Allez-y!

Okay, so, the mid-season finale.
Spoiler:
If Amy and Rory don't get their baby back, I am going to be properly ticked off. Maybe even angrier than I was after I saw the last ep of Series 4. It is not okay, not enough, just to know that the baby grows up to be that lady from ER. They owe the parents big time for watching a baby go *sploosh* in the mom's arms.

That just might my particular life circumstances talking, of course.

Welcome to SST and the forums, pilo875! I liked that episode, too. Am I wrong, or is 11 the first doctor to refer to the TARDIS as female most if not all of the time?

I'd like to direct my fellow Whovians with 20 minutes to kill to the following comic book online:
https://comics.comixology.com/#/view/10495/FCBD-2011-Atomic-Robo-Friends

This is the issue of Atomic Robo they were giving out on free comic book day. Not only is it hilarious and sweet, and it contains the inimitable Dr. Dinosaur, but it also has a reference I think participants in this thread would appreciate.

Thanks for the welcome.

There have been a few other doctor's that refer to the Tardis as "Old Girl" and "She". But, I do think that the 11th is the first to refer to the Tardis as "Sexy".

Would it be really sad to buy this print, frame it, and hang it in BabyI's room?

Maybe I'll just put it on my her Amazon wishlist.
