Hey all
Some of you already know that my city is currently preparing for a massive flood. Our last flood in 1969 devastated the city and we are currently getting predictions of 7-9 feet higher than 1969 by Monday June 27.
My husband and I will be staying with his parents for upwards of a month or more, and the rest of my family is staying elsewhere. My parents and my brother will lose their homes if we do get what is predicted and my apartment building will flood too.
I'll post here (or on Facebook for those that have me as a friend) to keep you all posted.
Here is a live stream of the river for those who want to watch along. The location of the camera isn't great but the river can be seen at the far end of the bridge - currently looks white.

Josh Duhamel (Transformers, Las Vegas tv series) grew up in Minot and he called the local station eary this morning while promoting the newest Transformers movie:

Well newest update is that Canada is releasing a lot more water then they originally said before. Also, the town may be split into two cities - north and south with the valley flooding.
Unfortunately I'm up North and my family is South AND the north side doesn't have a grocery store, hospital, pharmacy or anything except some bars and liquor stores LOL.

Just wanted to repost our newscaster's sign off from Friday evening - it was very inspiring!
I opened up this segment by quoting Governor Jack Dalrymple who said 'We are frantically--frantically--fighting this flood.'
And you know, I understand that there are some in the area who are thinking that we've lost. That the fight is over, the fight is done, there's nothing left to really do against the Mouse River.
I cannot possibly disagree more with that.
I encourage you to look at this as a long-term fight. This is a fight to retain our dignity, to retain what it is that makes us us. To come out the other side of this fight as the victor. To know that we will come out as better people and as a better community because we have taken on the best that this river can send at us and shown that we can come together, work together, help each other, care for each other and make this community a great place--an even greater place than it already is.
I know just how wonderful this state is and how this area is. How great it is to live in a community like Minot because of all the people who are here, all the people who care about their neighbors and about their friends--and about strangers. Who care about living the right way. Who care about, you know, the right things.
And so I urge you to join me in saying that this fight is not over, this fight is not lost. There is water all over the city of Minot, but the water cannot defeat us. The water cannot hold us back from reaching our full potential.
That's it for me for now, I'm going to leave you and perhaps catch a little bit of rest. Shaun will be here now throughout the nighttime hours along with Tom Schrader, and if you're so inclined we hope you'll stay with us for our continuing coverage of flood fight--flood fight--2011.
Good evening.
