Well, I attended the Hollywood Music Workshop in Klosterneuburg, Austria for the 4th time now.
It was hosted by Mr. Conrad Pope, one of the most experienced orchestrators, conductors & ghost writers in Hollywood. His career started off as an assistant to Arthur Morton, frequent orchestrator of Jerry Goldsmith, and became one of the most frequent assistants to composers like John Williams and Alexandre Desplat.
He has actually worked for everybody in Hollywood and likes to point out that for instance as an orchestrator, you're not only an assistant to the composer & the music, but also a problemsolver.
Mr. Pope showed us a lot of great and interesting examples of filmscoring, of how to approach a film, a scene, the context, the practical stuff etc.
At the end of the course some of the participants (including me) had a live recording session with 8 strings (3 violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos, 1 doublebass). We could write music to a selection of several scenes (taken from movies like I am Legend, Blood Diamond, Michael Clayton or Safe House) and record it with the musicians.
I also conducted 2 other pieces of colleagues of mine.
It was a great, but also rather stressful week and I learned a great deal.
All photos can be viewed at www.bpewien.meonnet.com
Mr. Conrad Pope introducing
Mr. Pope having a look at the orchestration book (of one of my professors at the University of Music & performing Arts Vienna, Austria)
Mr. Pope showing some score examples of John Williams & Alexandre Desplat
Me rehearsing & conducting the cue of a dear colleague Miguel for the recording session, while discussing with Mr. Pope and my colleague Miguel
And on the 2nd day, me conducting & recording my composed cue for the chase scene of the film "Safe House". I wrote a rather difficult piece and therefore it was quite some work to get it done. I'll let you hear it as soon as it is mixed etc.
Mr. Pope's signature on my conducting score

Well, as soon as there's some music to be put up here, I guess
Other music of mine can be viewed here
It was a great time indeed, it definetely would be awesome to work for Mr. Pope, so maybe that's some good goal to achieve ^^ _________________ If our music survives, which I have no doubt it will,

mmm what I see on the picture of that sheet with signature.... it must a musicless movie
Great picture and looking forward to have some movie/tv/game soundtrack of you here.
And since the last donation by Barosz, JERIC approved (probably not knowing this) to have a theater play track here as well _________________ That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne)
