(Disclaimer: Nessysheep told me to make this post, and because I am such a GOOD FRIEND, I did.)

On my Thursday lunch break I had an idea and naturally started to ramble away about it in chat, fully expecting to have everyone roll their eyes at me. It all started when Violalover was talking about practicing her violin/viola. I play euphonium, myself, and I know a good few SSTkateers play instruments too. So I proposed that we create a long-distance orchestra that covers movie and video game scores, comprised of us nerds.

But people replied and we had ideas about recording/production programs, and who might arrange pieces...

This could be kind of neat. Or it could sound more like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpJ6anurfuw.

Which might still be worth it.

I don't have anything approaching professional equipment. Maybe I could cram into a closet and make it work.

I also don't have the time to devote to the majority of planning for this, as I am working extra hours online. Mostly, this is a brainstorming post. A fun diversion for something that may or may not ever happen.

Thoughts? Instruments or skillz to throw on to the pile?
_____

*EDIT*

I've never put up a poll before. Obviously I messed up and put one of my answer options as the question. Also maybe I wasn't paying very good attention. That's what happens when you're writing lecture notes at the same time.

The point is, I can't edit the poll anymore, and you don't have to vote now.

I sang once, and thus have a modicum of skill, though little time. Mostly I'm just curious to see how this thing comes together.

The name should be Plague OrcheSSTra, surely?

Good idea but I am too long-in-the-tooth for taking part. Maybe I could just sit on the ground & provide the smoke effects? Wink

Cool idea! I play piano but unless it's very easy it takes me some time to learn a piece (I can't sightread).
We also have a digital drum set and an accordion, but I don't have significant experience playing either. Razz

Accordion, you say? My dad played the accordion. And so does this guy:

Ooh. More interest than expected! Does anyone have the time or energy to arrange? It doesn't have to be anything intricate.

Also: any suggestions as to source material?

(Apologies, I am underwater in work, and only occasionally surface.)

*EDIT* because I don't want to double post. It would be super hilarious to do a version of the Original Star Trek opening theme. We can have PeteC narrate. This way we can include vocalists and maybe a pianist. I also love the idea of an accordion in the mix.

Well, I used to sing in a choir too, but the bribery would truly have to be enormous to inflict that on you.

Hey Guys,

Gert and I were chatting and I'd be willing to orchestrate and arrange something simple that everyone could play as a test run or just a let's-just-go-for-it run. Cantus, I would welcome your help with the vocalist in the room.

If that sounds good to everyone, I would need a song title and list of instruments and we can see where this leads. Smile
