Oh yes. This film looks like a masterpiece even though all I've seen is a tiny trailer. I'd pay to see it in a heartbeat. Some of those frames are just stunning.
Caviezel is a great choice for Christ. He's got such a peacful, calm demeanor, and his eyes are extremely expressive. Serene one moment , piercing and vengeful the next. That shot of him bloodied and beaten, hanging on the cross is an image I won't soon forget. Realism indeed.
I will also agree that that scene in Ben Hur, along with Miklos Rozsa'a cue, The Prince Of Peace, is one of the most unforgettable scenes in film history. The reaction of the Roman Centurian as he looks into the eyes of Christ says it all.
Wyler did it right by never showing the actor's (who portrays Christ) face.
The impact is magic.
