I would like everyone to know about an alternative player to Winamp 2.x. It's called Quintessential Player. I've added it to the Downloads section. You can download it directly from here: http://www.streamingsoundtracks.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=3
It's think it is an awesome player. But, before I give my full opinion about it I would like for people to offer theirs.
Their newest version claims to support Ogg and mp3PRO. You may have to go to their website (http://www.quinnware.com/) to get plug-ins. I would like for everyone to check it out and really give it a chance and tell me what they think. Even if it takes you 2 weeks to evaluate it, accurate feedback is what I'm looking for. It might take some time to get used to anyway. But please listen to the station with it, and all channels that you can, and let me know.
Thanks! _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus

Sorry about that, I forgot to add the URL tags. I edited it so it's fixed. _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus

Flashy looking... I like Winamp's simplicity.
Mp3Pro support is turned OFF when first installed.
And it uses four times the amount of system resources as winamp2.
My first impression of this would be to recommend it to newbies, but would it be just as much work to tell them to turn the MP3Pro support on, as it would to tell them to get the plug-in for winamp2?
Maybe, maybe not. I'm curious what everyone else will think.
Edit: Looks a lot less flashy with the right skin installed (especially qhinamp that just makes it look like winamp lol). |

I've been listening to the 64k Ogg stream and so far I hear quite a difference. There isn't the echo that you hear while listening to Winamp. I'm just using headphones, so I'm not able to get the full effect if I were using my computer speakers at home. But, I like it so far, even though it does take up more of my system resources. I'll have to monitor that and see if it really becomes a problem.
Has anyone been able to get the arist and the title of the song to display like in Winamp? |

Can you make that player very small like winamp. To have only a small line instead of a full skin?
Otherwise I dont even wanna try it.
And of course it needs an mIRC plugin :-) |

You can make it small, but not the single line like you can in Winamp. It's called Runt Mode. |

Some of the skins can be made into a small line.
Messing around with it more. I started listening to SST and thought WHOA! This DOES sound better. Then I fudged the EQ in Winamp and now it sounds just as good... hmm..
Winamp might be for the more experienced us out here, with Quinn player being what we recommend to the newbies. Good call Jeric. |

I've actually been using this player for a while and have really liked it. I fully grant that Winamp might have other bells and whistles, but I have always good sound quality and have recommended it to others myself.
Even downloaded it at work hoping to try and fix my firewall problem that I still can't get around...

The latest development build (August 25) displays the artist/song title for the Ogg stream
You can find it here: http://quinnware.com/development.php |

Hmm... so I decided to give this player another shot.
Reinstalled it, and realized there was something I forgot to mention last time.
Not only do you have to turn the mp3PRO input plugin ON, but you also have to turn the normal mp3 input plugin OFF. This then allows the mp3PRO pluging to take over handling ALL of your mp3 needs.
Yeehaw.
Further opinions...
Dunno... I really don't hear any difference between winamp 2.91 and qcd. I'm so used to winamp I'm having trouble getting used to the little control differences in qcd. I also really like winamp's bookmarking function.
With winamp 2.95 already available in beta and Winamp5 on the horizon. I'm curious to see how these newer versions will compare. |

Also, a new version of QCD is out, 4.0.2. It supposed to fix some bugs including the title streaming in mp3PRO. _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus

It is handy for bookmarking each SST relay of course, silly. _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus
