Where is the option "all three"?

To me the trilogy tells the complete story. When I listen to the CDs I listen not to one. I listen to both CDs (RotK is still on its way) after eachother.

I bought ROTK last weekend. This soundtrack sounds much more evil Twisted Evil and dramatic than the other two. But it's neither better or worse then the other two. Just as Cal mentioned on the post above, listen to all three.

I can't wait to see the movie.

In my opinion the best of all three is The Two Towers soundtrack ( I just love Rohan theme played on that Norweigan fiddle).

ROTK had some great momments, but had some shortfalls as well. The music was stunningly beautiful but lacked that power punch that TTT had. Best cue of the series.. Forth Eaorlingas(sorry about the spelling).

My vote TTT

Just saw the movie, that scene gave me goosebumps and brought tears in me eyes! :D I shit you not. But in general.... TTT is *slightly* better.

That Beacon Scene just ruled.... and it was the music that did it.

Pure genuine awesome.

Ok the beacon scene was definitely cool.

However IMHO it was least strong of the trilogy, both musically and from a story/plot standpoint. Not that it was bad, or that I didn't like it, I just felt it wasn't as good as the others.

FOTR was my favorite from a soundtrack point of view.

TTT was my favorite from a story/plot viewpoint.

and if my bladder had anything to say ROTK was by far the worst

For those who are interested. The music from the beacon scene can be found in 'The White Tree' track. Thanks Cocles for that information :-)

I'd give two answers, and restrict the question to: which is the best st CD. The soundtracks themselves are about 3 times as long as the CDs:

My personal favorite will probably remain FOTR because I like the feel of it.

But I think the ROTK st is the best of the bunch, if by 'best' we mean something like: best and most effective music written for one of these movies. I think ROTK edges the others out because it is more evolved, in a way more complex, but without losing the integrity that amazingly holds not just each movie together, but the whole trilogy together.

But the story isn't really over yet. Word is out that there will be a boxed set of the complete full scores of all 3 movies most likely including the special edition material. So THAT will be 'the best soundtrack CD of the LOTR' Smile
