Soundtracks have been a great part of my life since I was around 8, but then, obviously there are many kinds of cool music out there.

Current faves:

Shostakovich
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Tori Amos
Genesis
Peter Gabriel
Marillion
Björk

Rob Dougan (I love his music, his lyrics, his voice... and, man, this guy is HOT!!!)
Evanescence (I love to sing along with her when I listen to the CD)
Metallica (because they ROCK!)
TOOL (I love schism!! Their music is so different)
Radiohead (I never tried drugs but I bet it feels the same...)
Muse
Beethoven (e.g. 1st and 3rd part of "Moonlight")
Linkin Park (before they got too famous)
Chopin
Bjork

and I'm starting to learn a little about jazz

I can't get enough jazz or soundtracks. I also like to listen to classical (mostly romantic period orchestral and piano) and some techno, but it doesn't take long for me to move back to jazz or soundtracks.

There's lots of subgenres within jazz. What kinds of jazz are you getting into? I listen mostly to big band (classic and contemporary) and mainstream jazz (which usually refers to the small combo stuff). I don't get into the avant guarde, fusion, or new age stuff as much, though I do have some of that in my CD library.

Well, the fact that I said that I just started implies that I cannot make a difference between subgenres for now. Laughing But, I can say that I don't like when there are "too many notes" as I like to say, and/or when it gets dissonant.

Today I listened to: Avril, Norah Jones, Rebecca St. James, Jewel. I also occasionally like Christina Agulara, sometimes even Brittany ... basically anything I can sing along to. I also like the "i wish" commercial that coke has recently. I like the classical and soundtracks a lot because they have so much depth. The other music that i like is only because i can sing along and i like the beat.

Well, personally, I can't listen to anything like recent chart or dance music unless I'm

a) Stuck in a car/bus with no way out and the radio is on; or
b) Very, very drunk...

"Too many notes" sounds like a reference to bebop (Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, etc.) That's pretty hard to play. "Dissonant" is probably someone playing "outside the changes". Few actually do this well. Most think they can do this but end up sounding awful.

Saint Germain is one I like. I should ask my friend. He's the one teaching me about jazz...

Actually, I like a lot of different types of music. I really don't care for Hard Rock, Rap (including heavy metal of any type) and Corn Country.

I favor,

Yes (and other prog rock works - the classical music of rock and roll)
Rick Wakeman (solo)
Jim Brickman
William Coulter (Historical Shaker Music)
97th Regiment (Historical Civil War Music, Very Fun)

Plus

Most Celtic Music
Classical Music (all sorts)
Smooth Jazz (all sorts)
and some Christian Contemporary Music.
