Hello Smile

How do you rate an Album? On a scale from 1 to 5 stars, similar to the rating system the site uses. For instance if the album has more than 50% of the tracks that I really like, have a high replay value, not too repetitive and fit the movie atmosphere perfectly. An important issue, some scores fit the movie perfectly but listening to them alone is not as fun.

As an addon to sites rating system, the user first has to step through a short questionnaire asking key questions and how much of the album did the listener really like. Then the site could suggest the star rating. I imagine Jeric and the folks that keep the site up have their hands full already, so I hope I don't sound pushy or ungrateful, you folks have done a wonderfull job. The suggestion is just meant as an idea Smile

In that case I will move this topic to the Ideas forum. Smile

Well I've been debating whether or not I should put up what 1-5 stars "should be" but I really think that it means something different to everyone.

Some people would think 5 stars means perfect, or just they're favorite. Glory is one of my favorites, it's not perfect (some songs are missing) but it still deserves 5 stars.

In the long run it all balances out. The only suggestion I can give is that people should be rating the CD, not the overall soundtrack in the movie, game, etc. And of course people need to stop rating a soundtrack based on it's current rating in attempt to get it more to what they believe it should be. Since this works on both ends, positive and negative, it seems to work out. What disturbs me in the rating system is that their are no 5-star soundtracks in the Top 100. We need to put something in place like IMDb that detects that. Like throwing out the top and bottom 5% of the votes.

As we get more votes we can work to improve the system.

Thanks Jeric. You're right about the favorite issue. 5 stars in my mind, goes to my most favorite soundtracks. So to give a 5 star rating you must then have to listen to the whole album, since I don't feel right about voting even if I've heard just a few tracks, that I've really liked or did not like.

Maybe it should be implemented. It might give people a guideline of some sorts when rating. However, I do agree it is different with everyone. But, a guideline might be good nonetheless.
