On his soundtrack review website (www.moviewave.net) James Southall said of Under Fire (Jerry Goldsmith):
"It's one of those scores that you could play to someone who doesn't usually like film music with a high degree of confidence that they will like this."
So, if you could recommend one album to someone to get them interested in soundtracks, what would you recommend? |

To a newcomer to orchestral soundtracks? Probably Rudy, by Jerry Goldsmith. |

Most definetly the Indiana Jones Trilogy or The Back to the Future trilogy. _________________ "You're best? Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and f**k the prom queen." |

Except for single tracks from many movies (White Rabbit from The Platoon, The Godfather theme etc) that would be Kill Bill, both volumes... If I had to choose, I'd choose the second one. |

In addition to the excellent choices previously mentioned:
Gladiator, Fellowship of the Ring, Return of the King. |

I guess it would depend on if I knew the person's tastes and on the enviroment in which the music were being played. Like driving I would say something like The Rock or Gladiator, or while relaxing / reading some like The Dig. |

Most people I know got hooked up by Gladiator. If I ask them if they know one composer, they all answer: Hans Zimmer.
I think LOTR-trilogy will do too.
And everyboby can whistle the tune of "Police Academy". _________________ In a world without justice, one man was chosen to protect the innocent. |

Jurassic Park and Gladiator have a great variety of listening appeal, as does Rudy I think. Most people, probably would be open to things that they are familiar with, so Williams works such as Harry Potter, Star Wars, Close Encounters would all be great on an evening playlist with friends over.
Recently we had a party, and I used our XBOX as a kind of background playlist, and put all movie soundtracks in there from Pirates of the Carribean, Time Machine, Glory, Spirit (Hans Zimmer, not Bryan Adams!), Rudy, and others. I cant tell you how many people came up and said..."Hey whats that playing...thats really good!", and it becomes a commercial for SST too! |

I'd say 'Star Trek TMP' and
include 'Superman'. There are
so many. 'Raiders' has to be
in there too. _________________ All in the world recognize the

A little remiss of me not to post my own choice but it would be either Star Trek TMP or Star Wars: A New Hope. I tried to be more original - but I guess sci-fi just generates good music. Go on guys, shoot me down!! |
