Jaws 2 more or less stank, but Williams' score is brilliant.

Clockwork Orange isn't a traditional score album, but I love the soundtrack and despise the film.

And there are tons of scores I love that I haven't seen the film for.

I have to agree with the others that point out that the soundtrack and the movie are not separate but I do agree that I can love music to a movie that i hate.

A.I. bored me to death but I love the soundtrack. Now having been introduced to SST I am finding many other STs have my interest where I still may never chose to see the film. However - I will continue to recognize the film's value as being the influence that created the score I now like.

I didn't like Troy at all, but both the rejected and the official scores sound great to me!

Well i definitely can see that it can be viewed different ways. After all, someone like Mellowman might well be just enjoying the score simply for its musical content.

yes, soundtracks are all about supporting and enhancing the moods of scenes, but that doesn't mean they aren't good music to begin with. I think you an appreciate a good score, no question, but a good movie, will make a good score better, because you have the additional level of gut reaction built in, based on your visual input.

For me, the good example is Sinbad, done by Harry Gregson Williams... barely adequate movie, very good music!

Conversely though! there are many good movies that would've benefitted from a better score! One that comes to mind in the same time frame as Sinbad, was Pirates otC... Bleech... I don't think the score was on the same level of the movie.

Terminator was an excellent movie but the soundtrack!!! Ick!

Yeah, Brad Fiedel's score seems seriously dated. (Perhaps we will defeat the time-travelling cyborg with our 80's techo-thriller sensibilities.)

I did like Marco Beltrami's take in T3, a little more than the movie itself.

Hahaha so many examples of awesome soundtrack, terrible movie:

Krull by James Horner.
Cutthroat Island by John Debney.


And about half of the movies Jerry Goldsmith ever wrote scores for.

Hook was a great John Williams score, overblown movie.

Rolling Eyes Then again I'm really picky when it comes to movie quality.

I have a hard time getting into scores if I don't have some context for them, usually the film itself. In fact, I made a list at Amazon of vocal songs that I associate with various movies, because to me, that adds a layer of enjoyment. Sometimes I can imagine a context for instrumental or score work, but not always. But if I like score for which I haven't seen the movie, that tends to be why.

So I seldom have the score for a movie I didn't see. Now, movies I didn't like? Elektra was boredom in a can, but I have the score. Of course, I don't like it that much. I like David Lynch's Dune, but the score sounds very cheesy. I don't imagine I'll purchase it, though that also has something to do with the confusing recording history it has.

I would pick Joe Versus The Volcano. Wonderfully romantic score by Georges Delerue. Awful, and largely forgotton, film with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.

I´ve to say "First knigth", I liked the Goldsmith´s score but the film is so boring... I only enjoyed (a little) the Sean Connery´s scenes
