Even in this context?

"Noone expected this tragedy, except one : Doctor Who knew!"

Leave it to m_p to find what looks like an exception, though it really isn't. I'm a little concerned about the colon, though. I think it really wants a semicolon, since you're joining two complete sentences.

Shrug.

I knew LadyInque would find something to comment on my sentence Laughing

You can always ask me for exceptions. I did not choose platypuses as avatar randomly Wink

Students have asked me how I became such a grammar Nazi. I tell them it comes from studying half a dozen ancient languages, and from reading their papers. I think I should show them this vid:

There are lots of way to ask a question:

- The classic one : "Why does the sidewalk seem so narrow?"
- The polite one : "Sorry, but I can't help myself to suggest that the sidewalk may be a little bit narrow. Is there an explanation?"
- The mathematical way : "Why the reunion between the size of a normal man and the sidewalk isn't possible?"
- The informatical way : "It seems that the sidewalk isn't compatible with myself. Is there an update I missed?"
- The poetic way : "Alas, on the path of this sidewalk, only the thin and brave man can venture. Can the bearer of the knowledge give me the explanation?"
- The surrealist one : "The sidewalk tried to go through me, but I was larger."
- The cynical one : "Do you like surgery? Cause it seems that we have to cut one of our legs to go through this sidewalk"

So, why everyone at a public meeting use this form?
"You're project is stupid. Didn't you see that the sidewalk was too narrow? Of course, you didn't ask anyone before building it, I wonder why I pay taxes to such bunch of incapables?"
And I quote the short one Rolling Eyes

Spoiler:
For those interested with the answer : the building isn't over, and it isn't the sidewalk they're talking about

Don't you just hate it when you're reading a website or a blog, and someone posts this long rant in the comment section in which she not only is spewing months of pent-up anger or frustration or whatever, dares people to challenge her on it, and at the same time gets her facts wrong so that she just looks like a rabid troll instead of someone making a legitimate point?

Don't you just hate it when that's you?

Embarassed

Yeah, so, the other day I did pretty much what I described in the first paragraph on one of the blogs I frequent. Plenty of other commentators chimed in to point out my mistake. I posted a mea culpa, avoided the site for hours, and hoped I gave the other readers a good laugh.

I'm posting this story here hoping that doing so will alleviate the almost painful embarrassment I still feel about the whole thing.
