Man!! And I thought taking away the power cable would be punishment enough!!
When I was young the most frequent punishment I had was 'go to your room'.. so I was like 'ok, cool, that's where all my toys are!'
I guess this is a case of real parent power |

Ouch, some harsh punishment right there, but I gotta say, it sounds like he sure did deserve it. What a demon child |

WOW!!! I think the discipline fits. Hmmm, so what happens to those kids who are not into Play Stations (or any video games) or TV - what do you do then? Still, that was something Graywolf! _________________ "Get it?...Got it!...GOOD!" -- The Court Jester |

rotfl... man, that was a funny one. And I agree with you guys, that kid definitely deserved the punishment that he got.
Actually, when you come right down to it, I think that the kid got off light. If I had done something like that when I was a kid, my dad would have made me pay back the entire sum that I had cost him. Absolutely no doubt about it. |

I think it was a great idea, but I would have made the kid take the PS2 to a pawn shop himself. If he didnt get $177 or whatever for it, I would make him work off his debt (plus interest) ie. start a lawn mowing business around the neighborhood... until he made up all the money. All the while he's still in debt, he is under my tight supervision and has no freedom. I would also contact all the parents of the kids who drank in my house, make sure the kids paid their fair share of the fun they had. I would have my hubbie ie. my husband have a talk with him on how to behave like a real man and how to replace the bottle of wine he drank. And thats just the beginning.
Some people think "There's only so much a parent can do" but let me tell you (as a kid, with parents) you can do a whole lot more than you think you can. The way you act just walking around the house makes a big difference on how your kids turn out. A kid sees the world through their parent's eyes, and a kid learns everything FIRST from their parents, and second from everything/everyone else around them. Whatever blanks you leave, kids will be quick to fill them in, using the information thir peers/society gives them. Parenting isn't a joke. Then again, you might want to be nice to them ... in the future, they will be the ones deciding which nursing home to put you in. |

I agree with Hurr78: the kid got off lightly.
Get this: we had a 12 y.o. boy over to babysit last year. As a rule we do not ask boys to babysit, but his sister cancelled on us last minute, leaving us in a desperate situation. She had an emergency and suggested her brother take her place. My wife agreed since we would only be gone for 2 hours and our 2 y.o. was asleep.
No sooner had we left the house, when this kid orders pay-per-view porno on our satellite. And not just one 30-minute monkey slapper, but two! I found this out when I got the satellite bill and I see "Nasty Co-eds" or whatever it was called. My eyes jump out of my head - "whaat?!"
I'm immediately on the phone with DirecTV giving them a piece of my mind when they convince me that the movies were indeed ordered from my remote. That's when I make the connection: "What time did you say those movies were ordered?" Aha!
They said they could tell that this kid had even started to order a third show, but canceled (guess he ran out of kleenex)! I was livid at this point and had he been there in front of me, I probably would have taken him out right there. My wife was even angrier, but we calmed down and called the kid's parents later that evening. We told them that he was going to pay us back for the "entertainment" as well as return the money that we paid him.
When he came over to pay the next day, my wife told him that I wasn't home and that he would have to return when I was home (just to make him squirm more). The next day he came back. I took his money and told him: "I want you here on Saturday at 8:00 am." He came. I took him outside and showed him the lawnmower and our weeds. When he finished that, I made him sit and listen to my lecture about the addictive nature of pornography, especially at his age. Then I said, "See you next Saturday at 8:00."
I did that for a month, making him mow our lawn and weed our garden and sweep our garage and driveway, etc. and following it up with a lecture on stealing, on what it takes to be a man, etc. Who knows what decisions he'll make from now on, but I guarantee you, he won't be forgetting me anytime soon. |

Is it just me or is this just a selling stunt? The seller probably made that story up to sell his PS2 for a higer price. |

Whatever happened to taking the $177 out of his hide?
(following delivered with a southern drawl for effect:)
Dad: "Boy, you're gonna wish that wine were ointment to put on your ass, cause I'm gonna beat the fire outta ya! Now go find me a switch!"
Son: (after a long search at the nearest weeping willow) "Here ya go, Pa"
Dad: (bending the 6'3" "boy" over his knee) "Now, drop 'em and count out loud."
Son: (thwack) "One, mississippi, (thwack) two, mississippi, (big thwack, Son is sniffling) th-three mississippi..."
Dad: "Well you'll think twice before drinkin' Pa's liquor, won' ya?"
Son: (sniffling harder, almost at a whisper) "Yes, Pa."
Dad: (thwack) "louder!"
Son: (as instructed) "Yes, Pa!"
Dad: (big thwack) "Don't you take that tone with me, Boy!"

rotfl... oh man, that was good. It's astonishing that the kid was audacious enough to order porno on your pay-per-view... but I think you taught him a pretty good lesson. |

I've heard that a lot of criminals get caught because of their own stupidity.
That was a very good punishment, I bet that the parents of the kid thought so too. _________________ My reality cheque bounced |

The parents did thank me afterwards. They said it was better than any punishment they could have meted. Amazingly, whenever I see the kid, he smiles at me and says hello. But yeah, he was pretty stupid not to think we would ever find out. |
