I've had a blog for coming up to a year now. It's a place for me to vent my bitter impotent rage at being...well, bitter and impotent, mostly.
The Calm Dreariness
I achieved my 15 minutes of Internet fame with this post:
The Best Educational Film...Period! |

Wow.... so blog is the new black, then? I'll maybe have to get me one of these too, if I can think of anything interesting to post.
Such diversity, you guys, I knew joining SST was a good idea! |

This, I think, is the reason why so many people either don't blog or abandon their blogs after a short while: coming up with new stuff to post.
There's a definite feeling of pressure on you to keep posting new material to your blog. The feeling that if you don't make regular updates, people will stop reading . To a certain extent that's true, but then again, not everyone is going to be one of the A-List bloggers and have their site visited by thousands of people every day.
I think the key behind starting/continuing a blog is to do so only if you want to. Don't feel pressured to keep pumping out material for your blog unless it interests you. You might choose to write about personal matters, stuff going on in your life, or you may want to use it as a place to rant and/or rave about politics, current events, etc. (heck, maybe even movie soundtracks!)
A blog shouldn't be about writing for your audience - otherwise it's too much like a real job. It should be about whatever you want it to be, and be written according to your schedule. If you're not doing it for yourself first (and anyone else it might be targeted towards second), you've got to ask yourself why do it at all?

You know there actually are quasi-business blogs! They blur the line between journalisism and an op/ed piece. Most of them have a narrow focus like marketing, baseball, cooking.
Another area where blogs have become popular is with schools or charitable organizations. It allows them to have a website they can update themselves without needing to pay a webdesigner/developer regularly. _________________ Actually believes Tron is a movie about mans relationship with God. |

Oops...I perhaps should have clarified that I was talking about personal blogs only (which I would assume to be the type that the majority of SSTers would have). Most often these come in one of two forms: personal journal and/or links to interesting stuff on the web.
You're quite right, there are many different kinds of blogs and they refuse to be pigeonholed. These days "blog" really refers more to the format of a website than it does to the content therein. |

Graywolf did a great job on those. I would like to mention that they are now available on the Link To SST page now too. Thank you The1Jon for linking to us and welcome to the site!

I'm so tempted. Lets see how long I can resist making a blog ...
I have to say that I thoroughly enjoy reading everyone's blog. It can relly become a waste of time, but its the most fun I have wasting time. |
