So what type of processor does everybody like?

My own choice is the AMD Athlon.

I prefer AMD, I'm often working on a budget when putting a pc together and Intels are more expensive. Also I've heard many good things about AMD processors, such as that they are able to run more efficiently than Intel's. Don't know how much validity there is to that claim. Hopefully some of you computer experts will shed some light on this Very Happy

Briljant.... :-)

I always decide when I need a new upgrade. A year and a half back an intel was the best choice. 3 years back it was an AMD. I will decide again when I am upgrading.

Yea, things change. AMD was very crappy before K6 came out. Since then it is the best buy.
I have an AMD TB 1 GHz (should be upgraded soon).
I once had a Celeron though, i had no problem with it.
But nowdays the XP, and AMD 64 processors (especially the latter) cannot be beaten. The latest AMD is the AMD 64 FX i think....very expensive though, somewhere around $ 1k (maybe lower now).

When I am buying for myself I like AMD because of price. When I buy for my division at work I buy expensive fast Intel Smile

lmao... good one, Caray.

I've had Intels and I've had AMDs. I can't say that I really care one way or the other. Just so long as it works.

Apple PC's a side Wink though they look awesome. I prefer Intel, mainly because of the chipset specs and the motherboards. The Intel chipset has proven to be very stable. A lot of workstation PC's use a dual Xenon setup. Though if I was looking for a great power to cost ratio, AMD would be the way to go. As Caray says: "one that works", both do so it comes down to personal preference and/or cost. If I where buying a laptop it would be an Intel, because of the P4-M, the same ghz class M chip when compared to a desktop P4, scores higher on benchmarks and comsumes a lot less electricity. I haven't done a lot of research on the AMD laptops, they do seem a lot less common.

I always go with AMD, but I'm not sure why exactly. I guess cause they have not wronged me yet.

umm.. Intel.. for me. never had anything else, so have nothing against AMD's performance or anything.

but... I build computers, and I have arguments with the AMD ones when I try to attach them to the motherboard.. I just can't do it.. quite annoying when you're in a hurry. that's the only thing I don't like about them.. they seem fine.

I have been on both sides of the fence. I built a machine about 4 years ago and needed to budget my money, so I went with an AMD athlon. Never had any problem with it. I really like AMD.

This past weekend I built a new machine with an Intel. It was more expensive, but I wanted to try Intel this time. We use only Intel at work.

If you are on a tight budget, go with AMD. Their new processors rock! I dont know when Intel will be releasing their new processor (2005?), but be prepared to give an arm and half a leg for it.

Intel have already started releasing their new processors. are you talking about the ones that don't have pins on the actual processor, they're on the motherboard instead?

They've also got the new names for them like.. Celeron (umm some number) D. is a 2.4GHz etc..
