What does that have to do with anything? We're discussing either Istagi making friends, or why the term "Native American" is kind of silly. |

just saying i understand why they feel discrimnated, but seems all discriminated groups try to pick something other than "American" to be called.
I can be friends w/ pretty much anyone, but istagi - don't be oversensitive- you can be friends w/ anyone right? even if they don't call themselves native american.

Thats usually because discriminated groups usually come from somewhere other than America originally, and would like to keep a connection with their heritage.
Maybe it also has to do with disassociating themselves with the people discriminating against them? |

No, you missed my point doodle, most of those groups were discriminated against here. But pixie made the best point. If we posted any other whites here, we would be called racist. _________________ 'He looked at her, and being a man whom pity deeply stirred, it seemed to him that her loveliness amid her grief would pierce his heart.' —Faramir's thoughts on Éowyn |

Sure you can name yourselves. But if your name is a lie, I'm going to call you on it.
Boohoo.
Istagi, don't be so dang sensitive, you're not the first person in the world, or the only person in this thread to say "Native American". And yeah you can do something about it. Since you obviously knew one of us might get annoyed you could have said something else besides "Native American". Anyways, point made. Go back to making friends. |
I will make sure that any other posts I make here will be run by you first. On second thought no, you certainly have not tried to be understanding or even friendly in this matter, you just wanted to whine about something. Plus I have ceased to care if it annoys you and will do what I like

And Pixie, love your point that if we made a thread called "Any other Whites here?", we'd start getting complaints. |
Glad to know that my thread just seeing if some members here might have some similar background and expirences brought you out to chap my ass and assume that I am racist. Some nice people have answered this thread, good to know you and thank you.
As far as the others well lets just say the music is better than some of the people around here. |

If i could only say in a silly John Cleese french accent way "You racist " _________________ If you have it you don't need it. If you need it you don't have it. You need it to get it and you certainly need it to get more of it. Which means you don't have it to begin with people just know. |

Erm, well, the first thing I said in my post was that I held off for awhile on saying anything.
Istagi, if there's anyone who's proven themselves to be whiney in this thread... it's you.
Lastly, Pixie never said you were racist, doofus.
Several times in this thread, now, you've drawn the wrong conclussion from what people were trying to say.
You're hyper-sensitive and it obviously clouds your reading comprehension.
Drink a box of juice and take a nap. |

You kow Istagi? I did not read this thread before (actually glanced at it when you first started it) but now I have read it in full...
You should read it in full again as well as you will see that the thread is actually bouncing back to you.
You asked a question and people answered. Now if you don't like the way people answer (knowing that the SST comunity is a cheerful bunch), all I can say is... "tough". _________________ Fear is the path to the Dark Side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate... leads to suffering. |

I find it interesting that you can still define yourself as 'indian' 'native American' (there, covered all the bases) past the second generation. I mean, if you are 1/8th or 1/16th indian, doesn't that make you 7/8 th or 15/16th something else instead ?
In the US articles I read there's a lot of 'African-Americans' 'Native Americans' and so on. Do you really use this in everyday conversation or is that only a journalistic convention ? _________________ My reality cheque bounced |

It depends on how politically correct the person you're talking to is. |

Wow... you are sensitive... Here is a tip that most people tend to forget. "read the posts, read it again. and try to take it in the best light possible. then reply if you feel you need to" It works.
Anyways to doodle. People who were dicriminated against(which is everyone) sometimes add things on to their name such as Irish American or African American etc. I find it quit interesting.
The thing about being an american mean that you can be anything you want. Heritage doesn't matter, and it shouldn't. We are all people from all lands living under one banner. Titles and groups that sort on color, such as the ones mentioned above only diversify and sperate us.
I call people from america americans, wether you are brown, black, red, white, yellow you are American. Its all they should be called in my opinion. I'd love to actually live in a color blind society where every man is created equal. But unfortunatly I am a racist for saying that, because a true color blind society would mean that no one gets help from the government because of their skin color, or because of their family heritage. If someone needs help to afford college, they should get help. it shouldn't matter what color they are.... Sorry I am getting off topic.
Take care kids. |

Exactly - but here in america unless you are a minority, you can't get help. _________________ 'He looked at her, and being a man whom pity deeply stirred, it seemed to him that her loveliness amid her grief would pierce his heart.' —Faramir's thoughts on Éowyn |

You're right, Lego. Reverse discrimination is still discrimination. I used to think that it was possible to achieve a colour blind world, but now I'm pretty sure that some people will always use race as an excuse to keep people divided from each other.
Unless, of course, we just have a global orgy and get rid of race altogether. |
