That's disgusting. At least Fight Club made the list (the only ST we have on there).

Pixie, this is a sad, sad list. I think it just goes to show what a lot of people think of when you ask them about soundtracks. When I tell people I like movie soundtracks, they say "oh yeah, I liked the music in Dirty Dancing, Pretty Woman" etc...
In fact I tend to say "orchestral soundtracks" these days so people know I don't mean scores with songs.
I'd be interested to know who the 10,000 people asked were and how the question was phrased. I mean, as Crisis says, not even Star Wars?!? |

The top 10 list for Classic FM is a little more in touch with the SST crowd:
1. Lord of the Rings - Howard Shore
2. Gladiator - Hans Zimmer
3. Star Wars - John Williams
4. Schindler's List - John Williams
5. Out of Africa - John Barry
6. The Mission - Ennio Morricone
7. Titanic - James Horner
8. Dances With Wolves - John Barry
9. Lawrence of Arabia - Maurice Jarre
10. Jurassic Park - John Williams
While I don't quite agree with this list either (as much as I love LOTR, I'm not quite ready to crown it as #1; the list is skewed towards John Williams waaaaaay too much; where the heck is Jerry Goldsmith?), it's certainly an improvement on the BBC one. |

gess who the hell did they ask anyway on that thing? Film the list you have seems better but hard tell these days. They must have went to the zoo and asked some monkey's to throw crap to pick them. At least one monkey got Fight Club right. lol

It is...But I don't like this list as well...It's better though but I have the feeling they only based themselfs on popularity... |

Me too.
The BBC List is only interested in "soundtracks" (The popmusic ones). We are interested in "scores".
If they will make a list of favourite moviescores, they'll propably have the same list.

Aren't most, if not all, of these scores Oscar winners and/or nominees?
I also agree with filmgoerjuan, very heavy on John Williams. What about Danny Elfman, Basil Poledouris or Michael Kamen?

I think instead of a "top ten" list that's ranked, we should come up with the list of "essential" titles that every respectable soundtrack collection should contain. This top ten would probably be a good start (though I admit my collection doesn't contain The Mission or Lawrence of Arabia *for shame*).
