Well, it says it right on the packet!
And it does taste good. No yucky aftertaste.
I love how it measures cup for cup for sugar. Makes substituting a snap! |
Pixie, have you tried baking with it? That's the only place i've encountered a problem is in cookies. _________________ 'He looked at her, and being a man whom pity deeply stirred, it seemed to him that her loveliness amid her grief would pierce his heart.' —Faramir's thoughts on Éowyn |

Sometime just good old sugar is just better than watching calories. Of course I don't bake much but when I do I only use Sugar. _________________ "Education's responsibility is to replace an empty mind with an open one" --Malcolm Forbes |

Wow, looked up that site Pix and it was great. I might have to switch to Splenda now. And the recipe club is free so I signed up. Thanks. _________________ "Education's responsibility is to replace an empty mind with an open one" --Malcolm Forbes |

Very interesting website. Thanks for posting it, Pixie. I learned how Sucralose can be calorie free: technically, it isn't... but the body doesn't metabolize it, it just gets rid of it along with all the other waste products. Apparently, they achieve this by "selectively replacing" hydrogen-oxygen groups on sugar molecules with chlorine atoms. |

The more things change the more they remain the same, notice the marketing juggernaught at work. When Crisco was introduced in 1913 they created demand for the product by giving away free cookbooks with recipies.

Just to shine a little light onto the subject, the zero calorie thing is acomplished by significant digit rounding voodoo. Basically they divide it up so it's below the tipping point (for example 0.4 calories) and they can claim it's actually zero calories according to the FDA. If you wanna learn more about the math behind food labeling, and how sugar is actually refined you can read What Einstein Told His Cook: Kitchen Science Explained by Robert Wolke, a food scientist and columnist for the Washington Post. _________________ Actually believes Tron is a movie about mans relationship with God. |

Sugar is the best sweetener. Best low-cal is Splenda, easily. |

Well, darn it, somebody should smack some sense into the FDA. What, food companies don't understand the use of decimals? |

Splenda is all natural |
(I know that this isn't what Thur meant, so I'm not picking on her.)
I'm often amused by how some people use the "it's all natural" argument for something not being harmful. Dietary suppliments come to mind. I can think of lots of things that are natural that can kill you quite efficiently.
Anyway, I voted Splenda, in case you're interested.
