Part of the production came to Leuven (belgium), where I live, together with Howard Shore to record the score. He wanted to use the Flemish Radio Orchestra. They had played his Symphony in Antwerp in April en he loved them.
So they came here and occupied the court for a few days. Smile

You have to watch Goodfellas and After Hours...
Perhaps my 2 favourite scorsese'!
I was very disapointed that Chicago won all of the oscars against Gangs...
What a shame!

I saw Gangs of New York and I really didn't like it. The thing also is I don't like Leonardo di Caprio as an actor so it doesn't help really...
I haven't seen Goodfellas or After Hours.

thur,schroddie,what don't you like in Gangs...(except Leo,schroddie)?
I think it's a beautiful film, with great characters, great story, well directed, the sets and costumes are amazing,Daniel D. Lewis is incredible...(i could go on and on...i love this movie!)
Perhaps it's a guy/girl thing...lots of girls i know don't like it,but boys do...
And you HAVE to watch Goodfellas & After Hours!
Don't you like Scorsese,in the U.S?! Wink

DocJones, it's not that I didn't like the movie, it is more that I didn't care. I thought the movie was very... blah. Very neutral movie. It let me completely indifferent. Arts, whether is painting, sculpture, music or movies should bring you some kind of reaction. That's what art is all about. Either you like the painting or you don't. In any case, you react to it. When it doesn't bring you any feelings then it is not a good thing at all. The artist somehow fell his mission. That's how I see it. And, for me, that's the case for this movie.

Laughing Well, I don't think that the amount of work should influence the way to appreciate a movie. Any movie requires lot of work. I am sure "the Core" required lot of work but does that make this movie any good? I personally don't think so...

Yes,but the work is not always done well!
Even if i don't like a movie,i always see something good in it(design,sound,sets,costumes,sfx,filming...or all in the same time!);it's very rare that i come out of a theatre saying:"that movie was a piece of s..."(exception:Batman & Robin...)

And i ALWAYS feel something about a movie, good or bad...

Not agreed...not felling anything about a piece of art
(in that case,Gangs of NY) doesn't mean that is no good...

i respect the way people feel about something, but i think it's not enough to say "i don't like it" without tell why...

And last thing:

now i thought the sets and costumes, etc for gangs were great. I just didn't like the story line. Just a personal preference, plus it was a little violent for me.
