I'll have to agree that this year was a tad disappointing except for two scores:
1. Hellboy
2. The Incredibles

I'd pick:
Van Helsing
Polar Express
The Incredibles _________________ "Education's responsibility is to replace an empty mind with an open one" --Malcolm Forbes |

The Aviator - Howard Shore
The Incredibles - Michael Giacchino
The Village - James Newton Howard
Les Choristes - Bruno Coulais
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - John Williams
The Terminal - John Williams
Spider-Man 2 - Danny Elfman
It didn't get an official CD release (only a promo), but the Dawn of the Dead score by Tyler Bates was awesome.

Maybe it's just me, but I find it quite rude to talk like that to the proprietor of SST. |

Yeah shock, i agree, but he seems to be just a rude miserable person anyway. _________________ 'He looked at her, and being a man whom pity deeply stirred, it seemed to him that her loveliness amid her grief would pierce his heart.' —Faramir's thoughts on Éowyn |

Why do I get the feeling that Van Helsing is going to win? |

I don't know if Van Helsing is the best of 2004 but I got more excited listening to that more than any other soundtrack this year. It'll probably get my vote for the SST Awards. _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus

I would just add the Village to these good suggestions. |

Me too
It was one very popular soundtrack for people to request (and still is). _________________ In a world without justice, one man was chosen to protect the innocent. |

I liked "Van Helsing" too. A lot. Great score!
I still hope that Michael Giacchino's "The Incredibles" will win though, because of it's... "freshness". And it would be nice to see that young, insanely talented composer finally win an award. (And award that means so much more to most of us than that stupid "Best Score"-Oscar, that is...) |

It's too bad Finding Neverland, Terminal, Girl w/a Pearl Earring or the Village weren't on the final list since they're in the queue consistently and were nominated by fellow members. But I have a feeling it will come down to Harry Potter and Van Helsing anyhow. |

This year was the toughest to select. And I think it is harder to select a dozen nominees rather than 4. I listened to all of the 2004 soundtracks until I was positive that I picked the most deserving. I know it's totally subjective but I did listen to everyone's recommendations. Before people go on about Girl with a Pearl Earring and Finding Neverland please check out Vanity Fair and Resident Evil: Apocalypse first. I believe they have been over-shadowed. It looks like it will be a tight race this year. _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus
