Great news for the European HFC members (especially the Spanish people!)
JOE HISAISHI is the new guest of 2009 International Film Music Conference in Úbeda, Spain.
<<<EDIT: It was announced that Hisaishi won't attend the festival because of his schedule >>>
Go to see him if you can afford! Perhaps he will perform his own film music.
I won't go there (because I live in the same country where he lives ) but it's great that he can get a chance to be recognized by more film music fans who are not familiar with non-American/European scores.
Michael Giacchino is also a guest of this festival. _________________ Miya the Pridelander

Thanks a lot for these great news, Pride!
He was in Deauville, France last year but my agenda was rather full at this time. He didn't perform, back then. I'd have regretted it a lot if he did
Also, welcome to MAG and Rukia (I was sure you both already had a card. Nevermind )

Joe Hisaishi appeared a morning TV show and performed live!
He played:
Oriental Wind (non-film music)
Theme from Departures (Okuribito)
(Oscar-winning movie. They said it's originally played by cello in the score. I want to see/hear it!)
Theme from Ponyo On The Cliff By The Sea
(They showed his first sketch, which he came up with at one of the early meetings with the director & producer)
Improvised "antenatal training" (!?) music for the pregnant announcer
Theme from I'd Rather Be A Shellfish (Watashi wa kai ni naritai)
... in YouTube comment section, it seems someone posted an "anti-Hisaishi" comment (anyone can write such simple tunes, his piano performance is bad, blah blah blah), and he/she received lots of "pro-Hisaishi" comments... then the poster deleted his/her own comment _________________ Miya the Pridelander

Thanks a lot Pride!
Looks like the video has been removed already too bad. On which channel did he appear?

You're absolute right, it works for me too now. Yesterday I had "this video is no longer available". Go figure...
This is a nice video. Thanks again for sharing, Pride! _________________ "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe" - Blade Runner

The last summer's huge Ghibli concert will be released on DVD (probably Region 2) and BLU-RAY!
In addition to the NHK's 103 min. version, the official releases include MADNESS (from Porco Rosso) as an encore, and "Making Of" video. _________________ Miya the Pridelander
