Amazon will often display the MSRP during pre-orders, then lower the price sometime a week before the release date. This I know because I play the Amazon.com "stock market" every day with their items. The prices change so frequent in my wish list.
What's cool is if the price lowers after you buy it, you can email them to get credit of the difference back. I once did this for about 6 months of purchases and ended up getting like $20 back from each CD that was a buck or two cheaper.
Keeping an eye on Buy.com prices too. It doesn't seem like many people shop there but I really like them. I will often find better deals there than Amazon.

And, if you buy it from Amazon make sure you go there from SST so we can support the site as well.

Well if we are all going to buy it, it better be now. I hear their are orders backed up all the way towards Dec 16th. So I suppose now would be the best time to purchase.

Official street date has been pushed back to December 13th, thus the change with retailers.

Well, that maybe true. But because of all the back-orders, I head that some people are basically in line to recive their copy, come the release date. And that not because of shipping delays either.
I fear that some people who have begun ordering their copys now, may have to wait untill after the 25th of December. They never seem to produce enough to rival the demand. As unnatural as it may sound. Its happend before.

you know in looking at the playlist on this it appears to be three cds of music from must the fellowship! by the time it is done that will be nine hours or lotr music!

That's exactly what it is, WORKER. I think Mr. Shore even said in an interview that it would be 9-10 hours when it was all done. It's my understanding that the other two movies are on the way at some point. Start saving now.

Seems really great!
What I'm a bit worried about is I mainly see american websites proposing it, and Amazon Europe importing it. Does it mean it won't have a real distribution accross the pond ?!

Yes!
It's now possible to preorder LOTR on Amazon France for EUR 46,76 (which is expensive, but not that much) ~ It's on my wishlist for xmas!

I got my copy! Didn't open it yet (waiting for xmas but I'll post some comments when it's done.
I was maybe a bit stressed the other day
So far:
1/ not yet afaik
2/ don't think so after all
