Inspired by Star Wars, Created in ACID

Meco's new CD pays tribute to the Star Wars Episode III
Meco Monardo is a talented arranger who successfully moved into the pop field in the early 1970s. He produced the first recording to be listed at number 1 on the Billboard Disco Chart in 1974 — Gloria Gaynor's "Never Can Say Goodbye" and co-produced Carol Douglas's "Doctor's Orders" before finding fame in his own right in 1977.

Totally entranced by the George Lucas film Star Wars, which he saw 11 times, Meco was convinced that everyone would want to see it and then — of all things — want to dance to it! After hiring musicians and employing his own talents as trombonist and pianist, Meco produced the biggest-selling instrumental pop single in the history of the record business: Meco's "Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band."

The disco version of the movie theme effortlessly moved to number 1, outselling the official theme by the London Symphony Orchestra in the process. It is the only instrumental single to ever receive the RIAA Platinum award (selling 2 million copies.) Thereafter, Meco became something of a specialist in movie themes, finding success with adaptations of the themes from movies such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Wizard of Oz, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.

Meco's newest CD is entitled Music Inspired by Star Wars and unlike his previous Star Wars recordings, seven of the ten new songs contain vocals. Nearly all of the music for Music Inspired by Star Wars was created and mixed using ACID® Pro software. "Except for the vocals,Peter Frank Santovito's vocal characterizations & guitar solos, there were no live instruments nor any MIDI used in the recording," says Meco.

Meco says he loves ACID software because of the ease of use and, more importantly, because of the infinite possibilities the software affords him. "When I was active in New York City from 1975 to 1985, my recordings typically featured between 30 and 70 musicians," Meco recalls. "I thought I could never recreate my signature 'wall of sound' on my own." ACID software changed that for Meco. "Once I started using ACID software, I quickly learned how to create music without having to hire 70 musicians. I found I could easily manipulate all those great loops at a highly creative and ultimately, very satisfying level."

Speaking of loops, Meco used more than 150 Sony Sound Series loops and samples for his song "Boogie Wookiee." "That song is by far the biggest use of loops I ever attempted," he says. "Boogie Wookiee" contains loops from Sweet and Low Bass™, ILONA!: Universal Female Toolkit™, Psychedelic Guitar™, Orchestral 4: Rock & Pop™, Mac Money: Hip-Hop/R&B Vocals™, and Twine: Intelligent Dance Music™ loop packages.
