i think medal of honor is big on everyone's mind cause its so high quality. is it really game music? michael giacchino makes it sound like a film music.

I loved the Wild Arms 3 soundtrack, and the Metal Gear Solid soundtracks are always delicious, but I'm still sticking with my favorite Final Fantasy here... I think I'll go for Final Fantasy X. Very Happy

For me are Total Annihilation and Elderscrolls III Morrowind of Jeremy Soule some of the best.

I hope the TES IV Soundtrack will be as much enjoyable as it was on TES III.

I'd say outlaws, and

Heroes of might and magic 2 and 4... Amongst some lesser music, there are some simply breathtaking pieces in this crowd...

Above all, "The Dig".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dig (interesting link here)
The most movie-like game I've ever seen and the most movie-like music I've ever heard. (Well, maybe I haven't played so many games but anyway...)

He, he, I've just found out it's already in the Playlist. Great. Mr. Green

I'd have to cast my vote for Final Fantasy as well. They've got such a variety of music even within any one of the many games in the series. It really doesn't matter what you like there's something for everyone.

Well, I'm surprised nobody pointed at "Call Of Duty" (both games).
Were they also done by Giacchino? I'm not sure right now. Medal of Honour rules, no question.

Anyone remembers "Return to Castle Wolfenstein"?
I don't think, every cue on that was synthesizer, or at least good orchestra samples. There were some action cues (in 7/8 and more Goldsmith reminding rhythms) I really liked.

Hitman II is also quite good.

There's a GTA-like Westerngame called "GUN", the music in this is orchestral, including many hommages to the old Morricone & Co.-scores. I don't know who wrote it. (Just listened to it when a friend of mine played the game...)

Though "MAX PAYNE 2 - The Fall of Max Payne" was basically synthesized, there were live-recorded cello soli of the theme which are really supportive to the atmosphere of the story.

Hope, I'll remember some more good game soundtracks, but now I'm completely dried out. *lol*

I am a Nobuo Uematsu fiend. I own Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9, and 10 soundtracks, plus Chrono Trigger. I listen to them all the time, and I have been listening to them all the time since they came out.

I'm going to be a freshmen majoring in music composition next year, and there's no doubt that he's what got me started.

I guess that makes those my favorite game soundtracks.

Anything by Nobuo Uematsu.
and Medal of Honor of course. Amazing stuff. There are some truly great game soundtracks out there but I can't list them all. Here's a small list of some of the ones I like that I feel don't get enough credit.

* Need For Speed II
* Battlefield 1942
* Duke Nukem 3D
* Perfect Dark
* Rush
etc.
