64kb/s?!?!?!....don't get me wrong, I love this station and I've only been listening to it for about an hour, but it's driving me insane how low the sound quality is. PLEASE consider making an even higher bit rate (92kb/s or 128kb/s...somewhere around there is sufficient) version of at least the .pls file. Thanks a bunch,

By using the MP3Pro plugin the sound quality og the 64kbps stream on my computers are close to what it would be with a standard 128kbps stream.

What I've been wondering lately, though, is how the Live365Player and iTunes handles MP3Pro.

They probably struck a deal with the mp3pro makers. Prolly asked money for it. That is the reason why it is not available in linux.

I didn't think iTunes could decode mp3PRO. I recommend using Winamp.

Live365's Radio365 player uses the MP3pro wonderfully.

As far as quality goes, for casual listening from an internet broadcast, 64k with MP3pro works wonderfully for me. I listen mostly with headphones and love what I hear. If you want to hear every high frequency and feel the bass, buy the cd and listen to it. Most of us listen to SST while at work and not able to enjoy our home stereo (I know that a few of us DO connect the stream to our home stereo, but these people still mostly listen at work). For PC speakers or headphone usage, 64k w/MP3pro is plenty fine (for me).

it looks like i'm losing this battle....:[....I'm an audio freak and I have really nice speakers hooked up to my computer...and I can't use winamp because i use a mac, but it doesn't seem like anybody else wants a higher quality stream so I guess it's not happening.

The l365 player has a mac version. It offers CD quality. You have to be a preferred member though.

Or you could try Audion which you have to pay for too..

Those are the only solutions I have for ya.

I have always listened to SST with iTunes (on a PC), from the 64k stream (I can't say for sure if it properly decodes MP3pro). I have no problem at all with sound quality, though I am using PC speakers and sometimes headphones. I should try Winamp with or the Live356 player to compare, I think. Right now I see no problem with the stream, and if a higher bitrate would slow things down, I don't see a reason for it.
