Star Wars! John Williams brought the symphony orchestra back to film music! Herrmann's Psycho, despite strings only, comes in second.

It's very difficult to crown a film score King, but if I could vote under "other" I might give a cautious nod to Poledouris's Conan the Barbarian.

I know, I know... What about Hermann, what about Rosza, what about Morricone? But Conan is so rich musically, probably because Poledouris had an unusually large amount of time to work on it, not to mention the fact there is little dialogue in the film to contend with. Smile

After some heavy thought, I would have to say Master & Commander is by far one of the best ST I have ever heard. It has some wonderful pieces, especially the Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis & La Musica Notturna Delle Strade Di Madrid No.6, Op.30.

Another wonderful ST would be To Kill a Mockingbird. Such a wonderful theme that makes my eyes well up with tears when I hear it.
