Most of what has already been said and then...
Hunt for Red October - by Basil Poledouris
It's not on the soundtrack album (terrible album, btw... doesn't have half of the good stuff from the movie) but I've popped in the DVD many-a-time just to watch the credits (and to laugh at Sean Connery trying to sound Russian). _________________ "Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens, makes her a home."

When I saw it in the cinema, I thought the track 'Bolero' that played over the end titles to Moulin Rouge was very cool. Its a really good track to turn up loud. They put a lot of effort into the actual titles as well. |

I always thought Horner and Goldsmith could do it best, like "The Rocketeer" from Horner or "Alien" from Goldsmith. The problem is they usually used the same gimmicks to end these cues, and just integrated different themes in (i.e., Horner's "Rocketeer" and the end cue from "Star Trek II" are very similar, or "Alien" and "Twilight Zone" from Goldsmith).
Never have noted Williams' endings before on way or the other, although I love the final cue from "E.T.". |

Bolero from Moulin Rouge! It fits so well, and it's so cool. |

Lovely to hear so many Goldsmith scores mentioned! I'd add Outland, Rambo III and Underfire. But also Poltergeist for it's brilliant ending and Papillon for sheer drama!
Other composers:
Willow - James Horner
El Cid - Miklos Rozsa |

Mellow, I'm so glad you mentioned Willow! I was going to add that because while some may find it cheesey, I love the Nelwyn party music, and then the orchestra takes over... Brilliant! I guess it's very similar to what Williams did earlier in Return of the Jedi, but I like Willow's end titles better in general.
However, I still think Williams takes the cake with The Empire Strikes Back. To this day, I have to stop whatever I'm doing when those themes roll. I know he does the same recapitulation of themes for all his Star Wars movies, and maybe ALL his movies, for that matter, but I think he just got it right in Empire. Contrast that with the latest Revenge of the Sith. I realize he was just trying to put ALL the themes from ALL the movies in there, but for me it just didn't work, and even worse, it was way out of line with the tone of the movie. Oh well, no one can do everything right. |

Nothing new I'm afraid, but I must agree on;
Forrest Gump &
Shawshank Redemption.
I stayed until the lights came on and the kids started sweeping the popcorn on both of those. |

Definitely one of Jerry's best. Love the tempo change in the middle leading into the full-blooded rendition of the main theme. |

My pick would be Lookout Point/End Credits from Man Without A Face by James Horner. I love the way it fades out to just the piano. Makes me feel sad. _________________ "After dark all cats are leopards." - Native American Proverb |

I have three that I can think of:
1-"Its Only Gold/End Titles" from CUTTHROAT ISLAND;
2-"Resurrection/End Credits" from THE PASSION;
3-The closing classical song from THE PIANIST |

Williams and Horner did the best end titles (CEOT3K, E.T., Indiana Jones, Star Wars / American Tail, Land Before Time or Rocketeer)
but my fav is Elfman's End Credits from Dolores Claiborne . Great!
I like very much end titles from Blade Runner (Vangelis) and Death Becomes Her (Silvestri) too ! |
I'll second that on the Blade Runner end titles.
I would also add John Carpenter's The Thing end titles.... I just loved sitting at the theater watching those roll at 2:30 in the morning (It was a Midnight showing... ) |
