As much as I like the Metallica S+M album, it doesn't really have anything to do with the movies... whereas at least some of the tracks on the Pink Floyd album are from the Wall, which was a movie...
At least, that's how I would interpret it. |

S&M just plain sucks. It is just Metallica doing their songs with a symphonic orchestra doing some addional things in the background. Absolutely not the level I expect from Kamen.
There are other bands who integrated symphonics waay better than Metallica. Epica pops in my mind as an example. |

I wasn't actually advocating that we get S&M for here, but I was actually looking for user opinions about why we have the PF album here. Every time I hear it I think "This isn't a soundtrack." In fact, the album came out first, so "The Wall" isn't really a soundtrack either. It's a sighttrack for the album, maybe?
At least I gave Cal a chance to plug his new favorite band.

Hope you don't mind if I throw in a devil's advocate kind of post here but could you argue that there's some relevance here because the orchestral element was conducted by Kamen (and am I right in thinking he wrote it too?)
Agreed it isn't from a movie so it's not a soundtrack, per se. But with some of the more major composers isn't it worth having all of their work? Particularly as they are film composers first and foremost?
I'm also thinking of Goldsmith's Christus Apollo.
Are Joe Hisaishi's Piano Stories actually from films or games? (I'm actually not sure so that may be a bad example )
In actual fact, and openly contradicting myself , I'm not a huge fan of S&M myself but it is an interesting point you make J2! |

Well, imho Pink Floyd Symphonic sounds like film music where S&M sure doesn't.

Mmm, that's a good point! However, at least one track per album is from a soundtrack. And other tracks could be as well (there is some unused material there) |
