Hehe, many good ones in there. There's just sooooo many of em though! I love the Casablanca-ones:

Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

And of course there's De Niro in "Taxi Driver":
Travis Bickle wrote:

Not to mention the ten minute speech by Gunnery Sgt. Hartman in "Full Metal Jacket"! Better not quote that... Laughing

Looks like you just read a recent issue of entertainment weekly where the listed dozens upon dozens of movie quotes.

To call that list complete or even a taste is ridiculous. There's simply too many good movies and good lines out there.

Maybe a discussion of what movie you think has the most quotables in it would be a good topic?

The Princess Bride has TONS of quotable quotes Smile

In fact, there's a list of some of the best ones on IMDB

This is my favorite:

Vizzini: No more rhymes now, I mean it.
Fezzik: Anybody want a peanut?

How about the Godfather? There are tons of great quotes...

"I'll make him an offer he can't refuse"
"Don't ask me about my business"
"You could act like a man!"
"Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes"

and so on...

Cocles: Not to be rude, but I am a little insulted by that. No, I did not read any magazines. I made it up myself. That is why I put the little disclaimer at the begining where it said, "This is an original list, nothing official." These are just movie quotes that I am very familiar with, as I am sure most of you are too. I highly doubt that you will find any person on the street of any city in the USA that doesn't know what series the quote, "It's alive... ALIVE," came from (except maybe Paris Hilton, but that is besides the point). You are right about one thing though. There ARE too many movies out there with too many good quotes; however, I wanted this to be a top 20 list, not a top 1000, but I'll start to make one up if you really want me too.

Hurr78: I'm sure that there are great movie quotes from The Godfather movies. Still saving up for the trilogy though. Unfortanently, I am flat broke right now. Shouldn't be too long I hope! Can't wait to see 'em, ecspecially with the recent passing of Marlon Brando.

Let me get out my violin for you.

...

You didn't say this was "your" top 20 list, you said this was "THE" top 20 list, which is a little presumptuous.

I'm in agreement with Cocles about the subjectivity of any kind of "best of" lists...I hate those AFI "Top 100" lists that only seem designed as a marketing gimmick (though in the guise of having some kind of authority on what truly are the top 100 films/songs). And doesn't it seem like Rolling Stone has a "Top 100 Albums/Singles/etc." issue every other month?

#15 is from the original Dirty Harry (1971). #7 is from Sudden Impact (1983).

Laughing Absolutely! And then they have the tenacity to print something like "the definitive top 100 films ever" or "100 albums you MUST own"!

Have these people never heard of subjectivity?

Cocles: I beg to differ. In the topic I said, "The." But like I said in my previous post, I put a disclaimer at the begining of the post that said that this was an "original list, nothing official." (Note the words in bold)

Jeric: How about something like a movie quote game? Someone types any line from any movie, and the first person to respond correctly posts another quote.

filmgoerjuan: Thanks for clearing up the Dirty Harry films for me.

Legolas: I love "nobody puts baby in a corner." Great quote.

BTW, here are a few that I like, but weren't I just didn't put them on the list. Most of these are just funny ones.

If I'm not back in five minutes... just wait longer. --- Ace Ventura, Pet Detective.

It's got a great defense mechanism, you don't DARE kill it. --- Alien

I've got a gun... not here, but I've got one. --- Wrongfully Accused

John Hammond: When they opened Disneyland in 1956, nothing worked.
Ian Malcolm: Yeah, but John, if the Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don't eat the tourists. --- Jurassic Park

Ian Malcom: God creates dinosaurs, God destroys dinosaurs, God creates man, man destroys God, man creates dinosaurs.
Dr. Ellie Sattler: Dinosaurs eat man, woman inherits the earth. --- Jurassic Park

May I ask, why you felt little Tiffany deserved to die? --- Men in Black

Girl: Paul, you're crazy!
Paul Stephens: You say that like it's a bad thing. --- The Manhattan Project

Open the pod doors Hal. --- 2001: A Space Odyssy

There's a bunch more I like, but there's just a taste.

Actually, you said, "origianal" which completely confused me.

Get a better shovel. You're not digging yourself out very well.
