Let's get this fantastic soundtrack on the playlist today! I think it was James Horner's first ST and all I can say is that it's typically Horner; emotive and exciting. Buy it from amazon here

1. Main Title
2. Malmori Rear Guard
3. Battle Begins
4. Nanelia and Shad
5. Cowboy and the Jackers
6. Nanelia's Capture
7. Maze Battle
8. Shad's Pursuit
9. Cowboy's Attack
10. Love Theme
11. Hunter
12. Gelt's Death
13. Nanelia
14. Heading for Sador
15. Destruction of Hammerhead
16. Epilogue/End Title
(there's 31 tracks in all on this double album, but I only want BBTS!)

The people at Filmtracks had this to say:
"For fans of Horner and Goldsmith, this album will be an enjoyable listen, as long as you don't take it too seriously. It is what it is, and if you can't enjoy Battle Beyond the Stars in the context of both Corman and Horner's youth, then you need to relax. For Horner fans, specifically, this is a must-have album exhibiting the score that led to every project you've heard from Horner since."

Cheers!

Man, I'd second this - a real precursor to Star Trek II, my personal Horner fave. You can't see the cd for dust in the UK. Good call plinth.

Horner's first? Now you have my attention. Could this be the first compilation of source material from which he does all his recycling? Regardless, I'm still a fan, and this seems like a must hear.

From all the sources, it seems that you can only get it in a 2-CD set (second disc being Humanoids From the Deep)

Here it is at Amazon

Yeah! This was a truly horrible (so bad it's good) movie, but Horner's score is actually pretty worthwhile... and yes, it goes contain a lot of the primordial material that he has recycled extensively ever since.

And Mellowman! I haven't seen you post in a long time! Nice to see you back!

I would definitely support this acquisition. It seems like a perfect addition to this site. Where else but SST can you hear good stuff like this?

Oh man, I remember this score! Was it Horner's first? That doesn't sound right. But I do remember it being distinctive, and I would definitely support it as an addition.

It had a fabulous theme tune, I seem to remember, really rousing and stirring. Also there was extensive use of the blaster beam, that great instrument Goldsmith invented for Star Trek The Motion Picture, according to this review at filmtracks.com.

It's an interesting review actually - I didn't realise that James Cameron was art director on Battle Beyond The Stars. What a great thing to add into your resume!

And thanks Hurr, it's nice to be back. New babies seem to take up a lot of spare time! Very Happy

(edit) same review that plinth posted, my bad.

Yay! The score has arrived almost instantly! Such power! You know what they say - be careful what you wish for!

Huge thanks Jeric or whoever donated the score to SST!
