|
I've noticed recently that some of the image ads are "always on top" and don't allow me to select the menu choice I'd like. It's not all of them, but some of them. The "New smileys" ad comes to mind as one.
Has anybody else noticed this? Is there a solution that I haven't thought of?
Running Firefox 1.5.0.1 in Gentoo Linux.

I've had the same problem both in Firefox on my home computer (same release, win xp) and on Safari in the computer lab (osx). Really frustrating, ain't it? _________________ "Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens, makes her a home."

I get the huge ugly banner ads when looking at the forums (currently I could win a $5000 scholarship), and then when the SST logo comes up on the now playing box, for the commercial break, I get a ton of little ads up there. Quite frusterating to say the least. I'm running Win XP on both my home and work computers. _________________ "Diaper backward spells repaid. Think about it." ~ Marshall McLuhan |

The little ads that pop up in the 'now-playing box' when the SST logo comes on for the album info are just the google style ads though. Only text, and as far as I know, they help keep this site as free as it is. I'm not too concerned about that, and I usually just don't look at the banners on top of the forums. I just don't like it when I can't jump to my 'posts since last visit' page. I NEED THAT PAGE!!! _________________ "Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens, makes her a home."

You can still click the next page link, sometimes it's just buried under that huge, ugly ad. Oh and "Start talking before they start drinking" _________________ "Diaper backward spells repaid. Think about it." ~ Marshall McLuhan |

The banner ads are now gone from the forums, but I have this huge banner ad right in the middle of the now playing box. Currently it's spamming for Ringtones. _________________ "Diaper backward spells repaid. Think about it." ~ Marshall McLuhan |

As you all can see I've been trying out some things to stimulate revenue here. Please bare with me while I find the right balance of what pays the bills and what keeps everyone still loving SST. _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? I'm certainly not advocating that you do anything to impact revenue. I'm sure you know that, JERIC, but I just want to be clear for everybody else.

Yep, I know j2.
The ad in the now playing has performed very well. So well I might make it disappear for VIPs. But I need to run it a while longer though to see if it's going to continue to do well.
I replaced it mainly because Google was not serving SST relevant ads there anymore.

And once my work life slows down and good grief I hope that it is soon...then I will be working on getting relevant ads on this site. So be patient with me too everyone, please. _________________ I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. Thanks for letting us know about the ads! It's actually been really silly when I get "The Fart Ad" _________________ "Diaper backward spells repaid. Think about it." ~ Marshall McLuhan |

I've been impressed by the quality of the ads actually - quite a lot of big names. So a big well done! |

Personally, I have not found the ads to be the least bit intrusive. To be honest, I hardly notice them. (Maybe that's a bad thing if they are there to generate revenue.) Maybe I am just good at tuning out my eyes. Compared to other sites, I find the ads to be tolerable, and they have not detracted from the functionality of the site. (I am running Internet Explorer 6 on XP.) |
