The summer film season is about to begin and with it come great scores . . . or hopefully, great scores.

Ottman is composing SUPERMAN RETURNS;
R. Newman CARS;
Zimmer THE DA VINCI CODE, POTC-DEAD MAN'S CHEST;
Badelt POSEIDON;
Giacchino M:I III;
Powell X-MEN: THE LAST STAND;
Beltrami OMEN 666;
Gregson-Williams CLICK;
Debney THE BARNYARD

Of course these are the top names and there are others that I missed. If I had the money to buy only one score this summer -which, thank God, is not the case- I'd buy . . .

John Powell's X-MEN because I love hero scores and am really curious about Powell's take on the franchise, especially with all the secrecy going around the recording studio. No one is allowed a sneak listen. Ah! Now I really want it!

What's your most anticipated release?

This was discussed a few months ago - http://www.streamingsoundtracks.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=3185

I'm still voting for Pirates of the Caribbean 2. Very Happy

I'm looking forward to a lot fo these, intrigued by Zimmer's score to Da Vinci, wondering what Ottman will do with another Super Hero score, excited about the prospect of a meaty film for Giacchino to get his teeth into...

But if I had to chose just one - it would be Poseidon by Klaus Badelt. I'm dying to hear another Time Machine from him... could this be the one?

Hmm, I'll probably pick up Da Vinci Code and MI: III before seeing the films, but if I had to choose just one, probably Da Vinci Code since I haven't heard anything new from Zimmer in awhile. Plus, the film seems like a good opportunity for him to write some suspenseful music instead of blasting my eardrums.Wink

I hope MI: III is a varied and interesting listen. Also looking forward to Elfman's Charlotte's Web and Nacho Libre, Powell's X-Men, and Beltrami's Omen.

I'm mostly interested on the Omen-score.
Marco Beltrami was a student of Jerry Goldsmith, and it also was Goldsmith who invented the sound of the Omen-Trilogy.

I think Beltrami is a very good composer with his own language and ideas, but in case of OMEN he always will be 2nd on the list... at least for me in regard of OMEN.
(It always be the same problem if there's ever going to be another Star Trek-score...)
I like Beltrami's scores, but it's as good as impossible to "beat out" the original Goldsmith.
Though I doubt that this is the thing Beltrami has in mind when getting into contact with material by his own teacher.

Nevertheless I'm looking forward to the end product. I'm pretty sure he'll try his best...

I recently started a poll for adding the Deluxe-Edition of "The Final Conflict - Omen III" by Goldsmith.

As curious as I am about Zimmer's take on POTC, I must agree with THE DA VINCI CODE being the better of Zimmer's two summer scores. He needs to make something fresh and from what I've been hearing on the trailer and other sound clips, it sounds promising.

Bpewien, yeah I'm looking forward to hearing what Beltrami will do with the Omen too, especially since there's talk of him doing a tribute to Jerry's Omen themes.

Oops, this is the big summer score thread, and Charlotte's Web isn't coming out until Dec. so it doesn't count yet. I also forgot Lady in the Water by James Newton Howard. I can't wait for that one!

Looking at Pirates of the Caribbean on STN, it lists X-Ray Dogs doing the trailer music. I read they do a lot of trailer music, so I checked out their cool web site:

The STs I'm looking forward to are:

1- POTC
2- Superman Returns
3- X3

In that order.

BTW - Thanks two for the info above -- I'll check it out. Smile

LADY IN THE WATER by JNH! Yes! Another score to watch out for this summer.

So far, JNH hasn't gone wrong with M. Night!

I'm very excited for MI:III. I think Michael Giachinno has a lot of potential to do well.

The Davinci Code should also be excellent. Hans Zimmer has always been my favorite, so I can't wait.
