This is a game called DESERT ISLAND. Assume we all here are left on a island with no means of escape. The only thing we have with each of us for entertainment is a stereo CD player.

Each one of us is allowed 10 albums.

1) Which 5 albums would you have with you to enjoy the rest of your life?

2) Which 5 albums would you use as fuel for the bonfire to keep you warm?

This is a fun way for me to ask:

1) What are your 5 most favorite scores?

2) What are your 5 least favorite scores?

5 cds and some kind of power supply I assume otherwise what a nightmare to have your 5 best scores and no means of playing them!

Anyway, nice game kiddo... and in no particular order:

Faves Very Happy
1) Star Wars: A New Hope
2) Medal of Honor: Underground
3) Time Machine
4) Star Trek: The Motion Picture
5) The Great Train Robbery

.... but understand how hard it is to pick 5! There are dozens of others that could have gone - perhaps it should be 50?... Wink

Bonfire... Twisted Evil
1) Red Heat
2) L.A. Confidential (I mistakenly bought the version with songs and no Goldsmith Crying or Very sad )
3) 21 Grams
4)...and to be honest I could fill the rest of this space and more besides with musicals... just not my thing..

Ouch. Why don't you just roast CD2, and keep all the great music from CD1?

I hear yah, Mellow. Let's assume the CD players are solar powered or run on lithium batteries Razz
About the "only five" album choices, if the CD players read MP3s, I can stuff all the music I can into those five CDs Cool but that'd be cheating Razz

Uuuuh that's really difficult! And the results can be quite different from one day to the other...

#1 - Spirited Away
#2 - Princess Mononoke Symphonic Suite
#3 - Music for a Darkened Theater volume 2*
#4 - Braveheart
#5 - Dance with Wolves

*: yeah, because there is Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns, Black Beauty and other Elfman masterpieces on this one** CD Smile
**: actually it's 2 CDs but it fits in one normal case Very Happy

Fire ? uuuh even more difficult!

#1 - Phantom of the Opera (Webber version)
#2 - Pinocchio (Piovani version)*
#3 - 12 Monkeys
#4 - Buffy Once More with Feeling
#5 - Rocky Horror Picture Show

*: unfortunatly there are good tracks on it but the vocals are horrrrrrrrible

You know that it's the same music (with 4 new tracks) Asri. It's just been restored/remastered/resomethinged. Watch out for those tracks on Disk 2 still. The last 4-5 are intrumental, but the rest contain lyrics.

5 to keep - King Arthur, Gladiator, LOTR - Fellowship of the Rings, Revenge of the Sith, Cider House Rules.

5 to toss - ?? I will have to think about that. There's not to many that I hit the mute button on

Thanks Kiddo for starting this one. I read through it a week or so ago and I've been chewing on it for a while. After all, if I have to enjoy these 5 for the "rest of my life", they better be good!

I would say, and in no particular order:

Star Wars Episode IV (although mine just says "Star Wars" on it)
Gladiator (the original)
The Mission
The Shawshank Redemption (even though I honestly only listen to 5 or 6 of the 21 tracks, but they are life changing!)
The Untouchables

"Honorable Mention" would include;
Glory, Rain Main, Star Wars Ep. III, Last of the Mohicans, Hoosiers, and Forrest Gump.

As for the big bonfire? I can only think of two right now that for sure make it in there,
Buffy-whatever-it-is (I don't stick around long enough to read the whole title!)
and,
Little Shop of Horrors

I could probably think of a few more for the bonfire, but I would rather try to keep it positive.
But, I reserve the right to add to my "burn-em" list as I hear stuff too!
Peace to you!

Maybe Cider House rules to "Honorable Mention", but since we can only take 5, it really doesn't matter, so...
never mind! Rolling Eyes

I might replace one of my bonfire fire bunch with another James Bond score: The World Is Not Enough. Man, Arnold was great in Tomorrow Never Dies. What went wrong?

OK, here are my choices for..

THE REST OF MY LIFE:

1. Star Wars (1977) - John Williams
2. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982) - John Williams
3. Superman The Movie (1978) - John Williams
4. Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (1977) - John Williams

These four John Williams scores have an unshakeable place in the Top 5, though their order may change from time to time. They all stir fond memories of my childhood when I hear them, so they have a nostaglic appeal which modern scores cannot compete with. In a pre-VCR/DVD world, the only part of the movie I could take home with me was the music (and maybe 8 minutes of 8mm footage - but that was too expensive!) So it was because I loved the movies that I bought the soundtracks. I was too young to be a film score fan and I was only dimly aware of who the composer was. I never set out to be a fan of John Williams. It was just serendipity.

5. Blade Runner (1982) - Vangelis

The number five spot is crowded with other potential challengers. Right now I have a particular fondness for Blade Runner, again because it is from the same era as the Top 4.

Other contenders for the No 5 spot:
A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) - John Williams
Dances With Wolves (1990) - John Barry
For Love Of The Game (1999) - Basil Poledouris
Legend (1985) - Jerry Goldsmith
Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring (2001) - Howard Shore
Poltergeist (1982) - Jerry Goldsmith
The Sixth Sense (1999) - James Newton Howard

THE BONFIRE:

This was a tough call, and in the end I couldn't come up with 5. I think because I can always find something in a score to like that would make it unbearable to toss on the fire. However, I have to agree with Asriana that the original Lord Of The Rings (1978) score by Leonard Rosenman would fill one place. I've played it many times but I just don't like it.
