Cal, in my opinion USA (down to 9 players) deserved a win against Italy. Yankees were playing very courageously till the very end of the game. _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

Australia put up a decent fight against Brazil and they almost got a goal.
Spain and Argentina are firming as my favourites to make it all the way.
Oh well..on to Croatia. _________________ "After dark all cats are leopards." - Native American Proverb |

Looks like Argentina and Brazil might go all the way.
Spain is probably gonna get outshot by Brazil. |

I am so behind. The second round has already started and I haven't got my predictions in.
OK, firstly, as the only one to boldly predict the outcome in all rounds from the start, credit where credit is due. Of the 16 teams Zirael predicted would reach the Second Round, 14 were correct. That's an 87.5% success rate. Way to go, Zirael!! However you only got one fixture correct (Aust v Italy)...err..let's skip over that..it's not important.
My predictions for the Quarter Finals are in two groups. Those ruled by my head and those by my heart:
My head says:
Germany
Argentina (what a FANTASTIC goal by Maxi Rodriguez!)
Ecuador
Holland
Italy
Switzerland
Brazil
France
My heart says (because I love the underdog and the upset )
Sweden
Mexico
England
Portugal
Australia
Ukraine
Ghana
Spain
So basically I'm having a bet each way on all the fixtures...lol
Good luck to all teams! _________________ "After dark all cats are leopards." - Native American Proverb

I admit, Portugal looked stronger than The Netherlands with a nice goal. We have a fresh team with all new players who are still learning. But the referee totally screwed up the match. 14 yellow cards, resulting in 4 red... Come on! If we lose, let us lose in dignity with a good match. But not this :S |

Cal, totally agree with you - the game was a mess. The referee was terrible and the players weren't sportsmanlike either. I don't know why Van Nistelrooy wasn't playing - coach should have given him a chance since the Netherlands offense wasn't connecting. |

Italy 1 Australia 0
Australia lose. By a penalty! In extra time!! Sport can be so cruel.
Still, Australia are minnows no more. We can hold our own against the best in the world, and that is an achievement of which we can be proud. _________________ "After dark all cats are leopards." - Native American Proverb |

Snow, the Australians earned my respect and they got a lot further along than anyone expected.
I was crushed that Spain couldn't get it together when they played France. My only consolation is that I'm hoping Brazil will win against France. |
