Hi.

I'm currently reading The Name of the Rose by Umberto Ecco and up next, I have the Pillars of the Earth by Kevin Follet on the reading que. Both are medieval era books.

Given that I love to read these books to music (idealy when possible), I was wondering if anyone recommened a particular or series of soundtracks to listen to while reading these books set in the same time period?

Thanks.

Just some recommendations...
(Please don't be confused, I'm counting any score that could fit into several historical story fact)

.) Jerry Goldsmith:
Timeline
First Knight
The 13th Warrior
Lionheart
Legend
The Wind and the Lion

.) Michael Kamen:
Robin Hood - King of the thieves

.) James Horner:
In the Name of the Rose
Braveheart

.) Music from renaissance composers like Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Orlando di Lasso, Josquin Desprez, etc.

Those were all I could think of right now...

Conan the Barbarian by Basil Poledouris is not only from a movie depicting a fantasy version of the Medieval period, but also it is a VERY listenable album, perfect for reading. I would say the same of King Arthur by Hans Zimmer.

You may also want to try Legend by Clannad or The Mists of Avalon by Lee Holdridge. From what I know of these, they actually sound a little more like the music of the era.

Conan, is probably in some parts too bombastic for reading books. Legend from Clannad is I believe an ideal choice and in that perspect the opposit of Conan. I don't know Mists Of Avalon except for the song from Loreena McKennit.

I think the previous suggestions are really good!

I would also add:

Lion in Winter by John Barry
Lion in Winter by Richard Hartley
Merlin by Trevor Jones

These are excellent suggestions. Conan the Barbarian is one of my favorite soundtracks of all time, but I understand the "Bombastic" argument in conjunction with books like The Name of the Rose. A little too epic for that kind of story Wink

I appreciate these suggestions, people.
