The poll relates to movies about pirates or have a pirate theme or connection (hence the story of Peter Pan is involved in some movies here).

(NOTE: I have had second thoughts about putting Finding Neverland in this group. I will ask an administrator if that option can be removed.)

All scores are available at SST except The Goonies (one track only on Dave Grusin's Cinemagic compilation), The Island, The Black Swan and The Sea Hawk. Some members may have heard and prefer them.

Those which missed the cut:
Treasure Island (1950) Clifton Parker
The Pirate Movie (1982) William S.Gilbert/Arthur Sullivan
Yellowbeard (1983) John Morris
Nate and Hayes (1983) Trevor Jones
Pirates (1986) Philippe Sarde
The Pirates of Penzance (1980) William S.Gilbert/Arthur Sullivan
The Crimson Pirate (1952) William Alwyn
A High Wind In Jamaica (1965) Larry Adler
Sinbad The Sailor (1947) Roy Webb
The Spanish Main (1945) Hanns Eisler
Against All Flags (1952) Hans J Salter
The Black Pirate (1926) Mortimer Wilson

In the meantime, let's get voting. Can we make 40 votes by the end of the month?

Vote now or walk the plank! Razz

Yep, way the go, snow!

As far as pirate music goes, if it wasn't for the pirate themes and title on the covers, Pirates of the Caribbean scores wouldn't have been considered "pirate" music, in my opinion. Its just recycled action cues from previous Zimmer works lacking the epic, high seas adventure feel.

I had to pick Cutthroat Island. It's got some of the best swashbuckling themes I've heard Cool

Wow, there are just soooo many great scores for pirate inspired movies. This is a tough choice for me but I think if I had to just pick one I would go against most conventional selections and say:

Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas by Harry Gregson Williams, just such a powerful and majestic theme and an absolute joy to listen to.

But, followed very very closely by CutThroat Island, Hook and Finding Neverland.

I totally had to go for "Cutthroat Island". It's something I can listen to again and again.

Ack. So many choices. I ended up choosing Finding Neverland. While it's not entirely a "pirate" movie in my opinion, I did enjoy the music written for it. I also like Cutthroat Island (and, um, both POTCs Smile ).

I didn't even notice that there were so many pirate movies out there till you listed them all. I do like Hook (I love John Williams) but my vote was probably swayed by the fact that I love the Davy Jones organ theme from Pirates 2.

It really probably didn't count as a pirate soundtrack, but I found it nice. I loved "The Medallion" from Pirates 1 too. I found it really suited the majesty that is Captain Jack - when he's not acting drunk.
