Hi, I agree with molossus.

Only a short message on the "welcome Page" is in my opinion usefull for everybody.
Think of an usual "web-radio" listener.
He looks on the Homepage of the "web-radio" (because no sound).
The Chat is invisible.
A Forum-Search takes to much time...

And then you got no information.

Only the welcome page is immedeatly visible.
I knew about web-pages with a "HOT NEWS" notification-line, which ist easy to use for the admins.
Everybody is informed, and the admins can do what is necessary. An sentence in the hot news is coded in seconds.

After repairing the mistake, then Admins (or moderator ... ) could (if he want) explain the downtime, or what was wrong.

@J2:

Fine, ... only for 365 audients.
(when i read the read the post correct, sorry I'm not native english speaking)

and what's with

Shoutcast.com

Icecast.org

Itune

or whatever.

I'm still thinking a immeadetly customized homepage, is availabe und usefull for everyone.
SST is public available (and great).

For example I hear SST with clicking the "OGG-Button" of the homepage.
Without registerd membership I were then desinformed.

I wasn't responding to you directly, eknus. You just happened to be the last post in the thread. However, only L365 should be impacted and all the other streams should continue as normal (although with higher listener rates, I suspect).

No one reads the front page. Most of the people have a bookmark directly to the queue page. And again, when something is wrong with the stream I prefer fixing it instread of writing a nice post. An "we know and are working on it" is enough for me. People who have problems always come to the chat and they can tell them that "the admins are working on it"

1) It looks like I'm "no one" Wink
2) If no one reads the front page - why do we keep it? Razz

I can understand your point of view Cal, and it is some way of dealing with problem you are suggesting. Besides, SST is currently not running any "emergency info module" and is doing really great.

But I still think that if we had some major problem (for example failure of requesting system) - it would be nicer and better to see just stationary short message (sign) about it (let's say on the home page) than to try to make an unnecessary request to find out that something is broken and then to go to the chat asking if anybody knows what's the problem.

If I enter the website and see info about any breakdown:
- I will not try to use broken part of website at all (not executing unnecessary commands)
- I won't be alarming others (that means also admins) that something is wrong
- I will be instantly well informed about the situation and even more happy that SST - as always - is a place where people respect each other.

That's why I think that we can see some gain from this little piece of info for users that we are talking about.

But of course it is not the most important thing (issue) here at SST.

@J2:

I was also affected from the broken Stream.
I listen do SST with AAC or OGG and
I'm not using l365 (does'nt run with firefox..)

Maybe caused from the long distance. ??!

O.k.
It was the first breakdown i've exeperienced.

So what.
Let's talk about idea to improve SST-Feature for "daily" use.
I hope, a breakdown wouldn't be a usual "daily" incident on SST-Streams/websites.
