On Aug. 26th, Sensei unveiled the new design he and Jeric created for the Album and Playlist/Request modules. We hope you will like the changes. People are already taking advantage of the new options, and sending feedback as well.

The biggest changes you will see are when you click on an album cover or select an album while searching the library for a request:

1) The album information and track lists have been expanded in size and information. For instance, you can now see the Artist for each track. This is something many people have wanted for a long, long time.

2) There is now an option for you to add Reviews or Make Corrections. This should be a wonderful way to tap the broad range of knowledge SST members have about their favorite albums (or not so favorite). It will also be a huge help in finding and correcting the playlist errors that can slip past us.

3) All album corrections go to the designated admin (Twopop currently) while album reviews may be approved by any admin. Both reviews and corrections are reviewed prior to publishing. In some cases, we may contact the person if we have more questions about the review or correction submitted.

You may want to check out 2 other Forums where there are topics on the new module:

Help> (sticky) Bug Report Thread for Album-module and Playlist/Request started by Sensei.

Ideas> A couple of threads from SSTers.

We hope the new module will make your time on SST even more fun and help you get even more out of the site.

I've already used it about 5 or 6 times, mostly to correct the wrong artist/composer at a certain track... and I will continue to track each one of them down. *hehe* Razz
The new module is really a wonderful addition to make SST more userfriendly than it already is! Very Happy

The only thing I think could be changed is the fact that there's no more extra-pop-up-window.
For example if you're busy in chat or anything like that, you easily can lose the overview because you always would have to switch back- and forward.
Of course this is nothing of great importance, but it would be nice to have the extra window again.

I like the changes Two, but how do I access the reviews once they have been approved. I'm looking for a "Read Reviews" button or something similar but I can't find anything like that. Confused

Hey Snow, the review once accepted will be shown under the tracks of the album page. As an example go check out the album called "Focus" by Dulce and Morricone and you will see phire's review of the album.

Thanks Jeric, Sensei, and the rest of the team for your hard work on these neat modifications.

I really miss the pop-up windows for requests. They were easier to work with because I could see what was in the queue before I requested.

I think the Make Corrections aspect is great! I'll probably end up using it soon.

It's nice to have immediate access to member reviews. I wish the site had tried soliciting reviews with editorial oversight for greater credibility, but this gives power to the people.

Are the reviews treated like a forum post with the author's errors remaining?

Thanks, nate. You're still the man! (or Da Dawg Razz )

Another question..is there a way to find or search for a review...or is there any notification when a new review is posted..or is it just a matter of finding a review as you select albums at random?

The original idea was to keep it so we only had "professional" reviews. However, I did let some through just for demonstration purposes. Depending on how many submissions we get, and what types of them we may allow reviews that are more user comments versus a pro review. At least we can vote whehter the review was helpful or not which could be used to have the most helpful reviews on top. Playing it by ear for now.

Only option B is available at this time. We may add option A if we feel that this feature is very useful to everyone, time permitting.

Things just keep gettin' better & better around here ! !

I particularly like the feature that tells you as your're looking over a track list for a selection, if the artist is already in que.... That's very helpful Very Happy

Thanks JERIC.

I am a bit hesitant to submit a review because I am not really able to provide any insightful comments. I find it difficult to articulate the reasons why I like particular melodies or themes and not others, and I am even less qualified to discuss the artisitic merits of the composition or orchestration, let alone the sound quality. I am just a layman who likes what he likes and does't find it very satisfying to just throw in superlatives like "fantastic" or "brilliant". I can do that in the chatroom. And I might as well just rate the album. So this begs the question: Can I submit a rating without a review?

Some will point out that there is already a feature on SST to submit your rating. This is how the Top 100, etc is compiled. True, but these ratings are the aggregate and average of all members together. My own rating is not going to change the aggregate much. For example, if an album had a rating of 4.77 from 50 votes, but I thought it only deserved a 3.00 rating, I would need another 39 members to also vote a 3.00 before the average rating dropped below 4. So I ask myself, how I can I get more out of my vote.

The solution could be from two options:
1. As mentioned above, being able to post my own individual rating (with perhaps a Top 50 Rated Albums in our profiles as a future feature?)
2. Have the total votes for each rating option listed. This can be best illustrated on the Filmtracks website. In this example, at the bottom of the review is a bar graph with the number of votes per rating option. I think this is a pretty nifty feature and something like it would look great underneath the new album information feature on SST. I would then be more encouraged to submit say, a 3.00 rating, if I knew it would be recorded in some way rather than lost in the overall average.

Sorry if this should be in the ideas forum but it was stimulated by the new features and this is not meant as a criticism but just thinking out loud Razz .

Thanks to all for their imagination and hard work.

Perhaps I misread what you want, but there are two ratings for each album:

Member rating and Reviewer rating. I believe that anybody can submit a member rating (as we have been doing for a long time) and reviewers submit a rating that goes toward the reviewer rating.

I'm with bpewein and zirael on the pop-up windows. They were really convenient, because I could make a request while keeping an eye on the queue and the chat. As for the new information, I haven't seen a need for it -- yet. And as Anafiel Delaunay would say, "All knowledge is worth having."

How about adding a search module to one of the sidebars on the album info page? Might be nice to be able to make a new search without moving BACK to the Requests page.
