I was just thinking, wouldn't it be better to base the star rating of an ST based on the average rating SST members have given it, rather than on what percentile it falls in?

For example: STs with an average rating 4.75+ would show a 5 star rating, STs with an average rating 4.25-4.74 would show a 4.5 star rating, STs with an average rating 3.75-4.24 would show a 4 star rating, etc.

I just think this makes more sense than basing it on percentiles.

Thanks!

Hey LOTR,

Good idea, but the current system was changed from what you are suggesting in order to account for certain anomalies... like an ST getting one vote and getting 5 stars. Search the forum's; I think it was explained pretty well previously.

There is only one soundtrack with a 4.75+ rating. Does that mean there is only one 5-star album in SST's entire library?

My opinion at the moment is "keep it as is"

But what about the albums that have an average of 2.94 stars, yet only show a 1.5 star rating? Many albums show a rating much lower than what we have actually rated them.

Using percentiles was a way of (I assume) correcting for the fact that people tend to rate a lot of things 1-star or 5-star, with little grey area in-between? If so, then the 1.5 stars for a 2.94 rating is appropriate, as it's a lower-rated album, compared to others.

For now, I think that we should leave it as it is. Well, I've been pushing for the ability to give a track a rate of zero (I decided to drop the request for 1/4 star granuality), but I don't know how the math works out for this...
