What are...

Your favorite anime soundtracks? (series or films)

It would be great if you could give a hint about the soundtrack genre!

And now for the non specialists... anime is an abbreviation for animation in Japanese. The term most popularly refers to animated films originating in Japan (you may want to read a complete definition there Smile)

Thank you Nate for the original idea Wink

So I guess I'll start, mmm? Smile I won't say anything about Hisaishi, please check the official thread for that Razz

Vision of Escaflowne by Yoko Kanno. Awesome orchestral themes (Flying Dragon, Dance of Curse, Epistle, Blaze), some minimalist music (Cubic, Shadow of a Doubt, Machine Soldier) and also a few romantic pieces (Again, Illusion, A Far Cry).

Cowboy Bebop also by Yoko Kanno. Very jazzy, but also very different styles (heavy metal, ethnic, etc...) Tank! is a must hear, but you wouldn't stop there, would you? Rush, The Egg and You. Some blues? Road to the West, Farewell Blues. Oh, and there is also Space Lion.

Haibane Renmei by Kow Otani. Heart-warming, peaceful, charming soundtrack, played mostly on piano, strings and synthesizers. Refrain of Memory, Free Bird, Ailes Grises are my favorites.

Rurôni Kenshin - Trust and Betrayal OAV by Taku Iwasaki. Sad story, sad score (In Memories). Great piano pieces (The Will, Quiet Life, and also action tracks (Shades of Revolution, The War of the Last Wolves). The soundtrack is an orchestral / synthesizer mix.

As usual, I could continue my monologue for hours, but now the thread is yours!

Haibane Renmei
Cowboy Bebop
Noir Vol. 1
X TV OST, Vol. 1
Witch Hunter Robin, Vol. 1

I'm sure there are more that I like. There were a couple I like to watch that I didn't see soundtracks for. Maybe we'll have to try and remedy that Wink

Nice thread idea Alchemist Very Happy

Samurai X/Rurouni Kenshin - Taku Iwasaki
Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen/Trust and Betrayal OVA is one of the finest examples of anime I have ever seen due to its philosophical musings on violence, artistic symbolism, and tragic romantic plot. This score is outstanding when viewed in context with the film.

Witch Hunter Robin Vol. 1 - Taku Iwasaki

Robotech Perfect Soundtrack Album - Ulpio Minucci, Arlon Ober, various
Cheesy but fun!

Full Metal Alchemist Soundtrack Vol. 1 - Michiru Oshima
These are very short snippets that are reused throughout the series, mainly soft piano melodies that could use more development, but I enjoy being reminded of the show.

Gundam Singles History I (song compilation)
I'm fond of the original, Z, ZZ Gundam series and these are the songs from the crucial moments.

St. Seiya Theme Song and Best (song compilation)
Collection of rock songs from the series that take me back to my childhood.

I am quite beginner in anime and don´t know your favs yet. I will try them surely.
My current favs are:
Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Love Hina
School Rumble

I had a lot of fun watching them.
But trying some more serious too...

And my avatar is Fay from Tsubasa Chronicle, he has similar character as me...is always optimistic!

For Treebob:
Shana is great, I haven´t seen all episodes yet, but both story amd music are super.

I have discovered new great anime OSTs.
1] Someday's dreamers (thanks to NNUfergs ^_^) - very relaxing and refreshing.
2] Air - it has the greatest opening music I have heard and one of the saddest song - Aozora
3] Hyper police by Kenji Kawai! maybe not so great, but nostalgia works...

IMHO

Giant Robo-Masamichi Amano

Super Atragon-Masamichi Amano

Are two anime soundtracks that no anime music collector should be without. Two large fully orchestrated scores that are nothing short of amazing.
