What would you consider to be the best Disney soundtrack (of their animated films)? What about your favorite Disney song?

Thanks to LadyInque for the suggestion of a poll. I hope I have caught all the animated disney films with a soundtrack, if there's one missing let me know and I'll add it.

Off the top of my head? Something between Tarzan, Mulan, and The Lion King. It's hard to say, because I like the soundtracks for different reasons. Some have great score and not-so-great songs, some have great songs. Already I'm remembering that I like Beauty and the Beast, too. Sigh. I'm no good at this.

Hrm. Maybe you can edit your post and make a poll? Then again, there are a heck of a lot of movies and soundtracks.

For sure Smile

My favorite Disney movie is Lilo & Stitch. Lovely movie, and a feeling I don't find in other Disney movies!

I'm a bit surprised that you didn't mention 'The Little Mermaid'. It has three famous and very beautiful songs.

These are among my favourites and of course 'It's a small world'.

Hercules
Fantasia
Mulan
Beauty and the Beast
The Lion King

Well, regarding the score itself my vote is MULAN, Jerry Goldsmith is still unbeaten.
(Lion King would be on Nr.2 then, before Zimmer got so repetitive...)

Regarding the songs... well that's another story!
Lion King, Beauty and the Beast...

I don't see why Fantasia is on that list, since every composition was written way before Disney films were produced and also can't really be called a "song".
(Not to forget that except the "Ave Maria" by Franz Schubert at the end there's absolutely no singing involved)

I really loved the art of Fantasia and Fantasia 2000. However, I never liked the multiple host concept of Fan 2000. The only voice good enough for the sound systems they were being played on was James Earl Jones. I think he should have been the host for the entire show just as the original narrator had been - just one person!

For its day, Fantasia was so ahead of that it never got the attention it deserved. As for soundtrack, while it is nothing to Mulan which is the best music, they put the most effort into matching picture to music - the very first music videos if you will. Might say that Fantasia truly started it all. Wink

Aaahhh...you mean I have to choose???? Just about every Disney one is good in some way. All depends on when you want to listen to it.

Aladdin
Bambi
Beauty and the Beast
Beauty and the Beast: A New Musical
Brother Bear
Jungle Book
Mary Poppins
Mulan
Pocahontas
Tarzan
The Lion King
The Lion King: Return to Pride Rock
The Lion King on Broadway
Snow White
Song of the South

Still can't choose. :-p

I voted for Beauty and The Beast. Back in the day, I took my nieces and nephew to see that movie like 4 times, because I wanted an excuse to keep seeing it.

It has the perfect mix of light/comical songs Gaston's Theme, Be our Guest.
And the rest is, I think, a moving score.

Good poll idea.

Wow so many choices which makes it a tough decision.

I would rank Dinosaurs by James Newton Howard as my favorite because the sweeping, majestic music is just amazing. But, followed very closely by Lion King because I like the action, african influenced music which supports the movie very well.

What a tough decision!!!

I finally voted for "Dinosaur" because of being a James Newton Howard-Fan... Very Happy

But they are nearly all wonderful and worth to be voted for (Lion King, Tarzan, Hunchback, Aristocats, Emperor's New Groove.......)!
