I wonder how many people on this site realize the tremendous effort Jeric and the other administrators put into making this the best internet radio station ever. You guys have my appreciation. _________________ I do not wake up with thoughts of control and rebellion, but thoughts of purpose and righteousness and the empowerment to fulfill those convictions that define me. |

Well said! Like someone else mentioned earlier this is terrific model of how one can build a successful station through content, a dedicated admin team, a community that rallies around and pitches in, and a friendly atmosphere*.
Jeric, you might be happy to see the following thread on SST in Jon Broxton's site-
http://mmuk64.proboards42.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1192274976
That aside, as a playlist focus for the future I hope we can try to have more cds from the Film Score Monthly (FSM) label. I think I've mentioned earlier about wanting to have more golden and silver age scores here. We have a decent start thanks to Jeric and a few others (Pete, Saffy, don, 2, zir...) but it would be nice if we could try to get more on a regular basis. I know that a number of us on SST follow the discussions and recommendations on FSM's message board. There have been many times that I have wanted to get one of the FSM releases but there's no way to listen to it fully to decide. The 30 second samples on SAE are too short.
There's another new label that I really like- MovieScore Media. They have a nice selection of music by composers who aren't well known. Their recent release of The Rocket Post is a beauty!
I would really love for us to have every Movie Score Media release and many of the FSM cds (I'm reluctant to try to request those playlist additions by writing a post for each and every one of them-- it will flood the regular thread).
It might not be a bad idea to contact those labels to see if they can arrange something like donating a few cds every now and then. I think we can make a case that donations from them would translate to more purchases since one is able to fully hear the album.
As SST grows I'd like to think of it as (I guess Molossus said this earlier) a repository of scores.
* I'm glad we have a very easy going and friendly atmosphere. In contrast you only have to check the FSM message boards to see how vicious things can get-- it's really sad that in spite of so many knowledgeable professionals there, the frequent bickering and ego tussles make the board entirely off-putting |

Awesome post, BP!!
It was fun to read what others are saying about SST on another forum.
Hear! Hear! about adding more Golden/Silver age scores, especially from FSM whom we can trust to put out releases with quality sound. (Just by coincidence I happened to send in an Alfred Newman compilation this month.)
Thanks for the recommendations. I'm sure some of us will be taking a closer look at those lists from now on. |

Thanks for that link, BP! As Two said, it's interesting to see what others are saying about SST, like these quotes from that site, for example:

Last night I was sitting around bored and trying to see how many classic scores I could pack the playlist with before the game score kidz came back from clubbing. I don't usually do that, but it struck me that SST is a wonderful venue for showing whippersnappers what they're missing... Also, for showing old farts any good new stuff. |

One nice thing about SST is that you cannot request anything by a composer who's already in the queue (the queue is usually 90 minutes to 3 hours long depending on the day/hour) So it almost forces a diverse playlist. (it's next to impossible to request something by Williams, for example, because he's so in demand... which has the perhaps unfortunate side effect that only his better-known scores ever get requested.)

(emphasis mine)
I think this confirms what many of us have been saying ever since those rules went into effect.
By the way, if it's not acceptable to post a quote from another discussion board, I welcome a mod or admin to edit my post as necessary. Thanks. |

Another vote to drop Us And Them, Symphonic Pink Floyd as the year comes to a close.
