So, SST went down this past Saturday afternoon, and in attempts to find out what happened, I went to go check at the SST back up chat. But when I went there, it was completely empty. So what is the deal with the back up chat? Has it been forgotten about? Or has it been discontinued, and I didn't know about it?

It's been more so forgotten, because SST's chat is overall reliable.

It is not very well known.
It was last used when SST was offline for almost 24 hours last September.

 Oh dear, LOTR... I almost went over there to see if people were checking in but I was so preoccupied, I never did follow thru. Very sorry about that!
The fact that it was a slow, quiet Saturday is probably the reason. If this had happened on a week day, I think you would have had a lot of company. Hopefully we won't need it but it's still good to have.
Another emergency life-line would be to email a Mod or Admin to report the problem. If any of us are by our computers, we could probably give you an update.

The backup chat has been helpful from time to time. Especially when SST was down for a couple days. I keep it in my favorites just in case.

Update to the backup chat. My web host recently upgraded platforms and in the move got rid of my chat. I have created a new one and it can be found here.
