OK, I have 2 small children under 4 and I want to introduce them to soundtracks. Much of the stuff I like though is pretty scary for them (star wars, LOTR, gladiator, 300, Batman Begins, etc.). So I am trying to come up with STs or even individual songs from soundtracks that I could play for them. Potentially at night as I always leave Enya playing on repeat in my daughter's room at night, but that is getting old. So any suggestions. Be creative. For example, I think some of the milder James Bond tracks would be good.

Just go for the lighthearted stuff - Elfman writes a lot - Charlotte's Web, Flubber...etc.

My mother used to play me Led Zeppelin when I was under 4 and it looks like it didn't harm me too much Wink

But talking about soundtracks my suggestion is: play them anything what they seem to like (I think you could observe what they like and what they don't like by listening a lot of different stuff together with them). And maybe soft piano tracks could be good idea for the evening (nights).

My first thought would be to look at the soundtracks for any movies they may know and enjoy. My daughter loves many of the Disney movies (the ones I'll let her watch, anyway) but those (unfortunately for me) often feature vocal tracks that may not be suitable for your purposes.

The best one I can think of is Peter Pan, it is a beautiful soundtrack, and James Newton Howard's best ST in my opinion. Also, a great singular track I would recommend is "Into the West" from the LOTR3 soundtrack, it would make the perfect lullaby.

Hope this helps! Smile

yes, they like the disney ST's like cinderella and snow white, but those can get old really quick. The Sound of music is also pretty good. For the peter pan ST, are you talking about the original cartoon movie? Or are you talking about Hook with robin williams?

LOTRKing was actually referring to the more recent film, Peter Pan which did not receive good reviews. The score was done by James Newton Howard and some of the music is actually being used for Disney's new marketing campaign. Here is the amazon link to the CD for Peter Pan. It is a wonderful score that I think would be enjoyable for younger kids.

I've been playing music for both of my children since my daughter was a baby, and now for my son, who just turned 4 months. Some of my favorite soundtracks for them would be "Finding Neverland", "Master & Commander" and "Unearthed". I also play a lot of Enya and other classical CDs for them while they sleep. If you need any other suggestions, PM me sometime! Very Happy

The various Muppet soundtracks may have some good score in addition to the vocal tracks. When I was little, I loved Star Wars, and that score would sometimes be playing as I fell asleep. But maybe I was a little older than you're thinking.
