I just noticed that Random Track Day was suggested before (BTW: It was Pete's idea).
If anybody wants to read a bit more about it, here is a link: http://www.streamingsoundtracks.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1525&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
I like Goober's idea from the old thread _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

So, I say use the random button and select the first track suggested unless it is longer than 5 minutes (at five minutes I think this gives everyone a good opportunity to participate). |
I 100% agree, Nate!
And, thank you for the reminder Molossus, although I think every 4 years is a loooong period |

And while we agree on time of request, how about rating? You will often get ones that are not rated, take a moment and listen and rate it!

This has absolutely nothing to do with Random Request Day, but....

Please do not take "just a moment" to rate an entire album! Take the time (yes, it can take weeks) to listen to at least three or four tracks on any album. I don't think it's possible to get a good impression of an entire album by listening to just one track. _________________ "Welcome to the paranoia club; cheapest fees in the universe and membership lasts forever."

I just now saw this! Anyway, sure I'm game and will use the select random track button from now on.
I saw RTD in the que but didn't "get it" until just now. I just tried it and got a LOTR track that is 10 minutes long!! Don't worry - I didn't take it! I will definately go for the next one which is only a 2 minute track

Great, Angela!
So, what are the best random tracks/albums you heard today ?
I liked Code 46, and many others that I can't remember. I wanted to take notes, but it's not easy when you work at the same time! _________________ "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe" - Blade Runner |

Hi Alchemist!
I liked the Princess Moneake (sp?) track ..Couldn't believe it was random! I also like the one that just played from Man on Fire but it was way too short .. just when I was getting into it - it was over. I also liked the Furious Angels track but now looking at the message in the que I'm not sure whether or not that was picked randomly!
I think it's a great idea having a random track day and I don't know about other people but I have the tendency to get stuck in a rut. I do try to make a real effort to go outside my comfort zone and play something that I'm unfamiliar with - that way it broadens my knowledge and appreciation of the vast array of soundtracks out there!
Partly, I don't take the chance from the fear that it will really sound awful and people will hate it and will cringe when they see one of my selections come up! So, if there are some days when I'm not selecting good things, it's probably 1 of those days when I'm experimenting and I've only listened to a 20 second sample! Lots of times the sample is totally different than what I expected when the track plays in it's entirety!
I don't have a soundtrack library, and can't afford 1 right now, so this station is really my only chance to hear a wide range of sountracks and to learn which soundtracks and composers really do appeal to me best. I have a broad range...so at least it's never boring!
Happy listening and we'll have to do this again sometime!

So... if I choose a random track AND a 10 minute one comes up first... what do I do next? It seems we're not supposed to "pick something better" and yet no one likes those long tracks... |

The rulw to "not pick something better" does not apply in this case. Hit the random button again until you get a track that's under five minutes. _________________ "Welcome to the paranoia club; cheapest fees in the universe and membership lasts forever."

I would say... RTD has been a HIT! How about EVERY Thursday! Or... maybe just every First Thursday of the month?
What say ye?!
