ElJay, while I respect your call for balance, the fact is, that almost every day is "Male Composer Day" because the overwhelming majority of scores are composed by men. That's not balanced. And I'm not making any claims that females are better/worse than males. I personally would just like to see and hear from the girls, if only to see who they are.

As for your proposal in the previous post,
1) You should make your own thread and poll for it. I like the newcomers idea
2) It's pretty impossible to make a 50-50 gender balance in any category, because that balance just doesn't exist.

I wish it did. But until it does, I don't think there's anything wrong with spotlighting the female composers for one day a year. It's not a political statement. But as you can tell, some people aren't even aware that there are more than two female composers. I wasn't, until recently. It would be nice to give them some time.

Hi, LadyInqu !

... as you describe the situation of "not being recognized" by public that reason behind seems to require a pure "Female Composer Day".

Would be good, as you describe to me, that you give these reasons behind to the visitors in your 1st posting. Otherwise it could be understood wrongly and misinterprated as I said as a "Feministic (Political) Activities". - Set the borders right !

... and I may suggest further on, bring the facts clearly onto the table and everybody will understand it. - Such a "Day" then can bring it to the balance, as I mentioned this should be the first target. - Meanwhile women are in every segments of business industries, medias, marketing and consumer markets dominating heavily the scene (here I speak about European situation and the leading positions) and that's everything else we'd needed for a gender balanced "living togehter in harmony" between males and females. That's less my personal opinion (I come out of market research) than that one of social sciences and meanwhile from side of the female women's right fighters.

Wish you good luck for designing your event ! - ElJay Arem from Europe/Germany/Hamburg.

// P.S.: To have another Theme's Day under the headline of "NewComers" I'd say some specialists here can say more about this. //

I'm afraid I don't understand you good ElJay (my english is far from perfect), but I just wanted to let everybody know that I never (not even for a moment) felt that this thread was about "Feministic (Political) Activities" and not about one of many Theme Day ideas. Shocked

I agree with you LadyInque that we can once in a while appreciate female composers (and 8 march sounds perfect to do it).

By the way, I didn't realize that there are so many female composers (especially those named by alchemist).

Hi, Commodore Molossus !

... don't be afraid. Talk freely and on a direct way with me. That's what I like.

English isn't my mother langauge, too. So we try our best, hm... (As I can see, you live in my neighbour country. Suppose you understand German ??) - Say what you think and how you see the things so we come quickly to the relevant point.

I am used to think critically, 1st to proof if something makes sense and even to check out the weak point. I am no more one of the younger generation (old bone with white hairs). - Life let one proof one lessons and with this experiences 1st I look "behind the curtain".

If you made good experiences here at SST under the aspect of "gender balanced", that's great. - I am not a friend of extreme trends, swapping into one directon or the other. We had this since the 68-Generation of 20th century. And it didn't work, failed. THe children and children's children of the Student's movement meanwhile pay a high prize under many social aspects of Modern/Western Societes.

I mentioned about some aspects which might help a little to bring the quality of such a theme's day to that what it can be. - And I did my voting on the basis of informations which were available. We will see, how the SST crowd has it's opionion. - Nice rest of weekend and...

Enjoy listening to good music ! - Greetings from ElJay - Europe/Germany/Hamburg

Hi ElJay! Yes I live very close to Germany (I think less than 10 kilometers from your country). Sadly I know very little of german language (just a few words). But I like visiting Germany (folks from my family live in Germany in Heidelberg and also near the Dutch border).

I don't find the idea of Female Composers Day as extreme trend but I understand your opinion is different. Different opinions make discussion more interesting.

Thanks for the reminder and the bump of this topic. It's really hard to find female composers if you don't know anything about it. Smile
