I see Schindler's List has been mentioned a couple of times here, and I can't agree more. That movie always makes my eyes go all wet, and the music always makes me think about it, but not with that great an emotion.

The song that brought a lot of emotion to me was the last song played at the end of Pearl Harbor (when Rafe is flying with little Danny.) Before watching that movie. I didn't care about the world of film scores. However once I heard that song and just the whole atmosphere of the end I was absolutely stunned. I just kept listening throughout the credits and saw "Music by Hans Zimmer" and eversince then I have been hooked on film scores especially Zimmer's.

My vote:

The musical score's main theme from the Charlie Chaplin movie "The Kid" is very moving for me.

Also, Casper's Lullabye is pretty sentimental.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this one but the music from Amelie I find to be very moving. Part of the score is very sad but I think that all of it expresses the "feelings" or emotions of the movie very well.

Very nice.

I bought the soundtrack of "Road to Perdition" recently. They have a few "sad" tracks.

From reading the above posts, I get the impression that people are mixing up their emotions that are a result of watching the film and those that are a result of listening to the OST.
Having watched the film and then listened to the OST, it is natural to remember the scene and duplicate the emotion. However, to become emotional as a result of listening to an OST prior to seeing the film is, I think, unusual.

From a film first point of view, I would go with Barbers 'Adagio for Strings' from Platoon.
From an OST first point of view, I would go with 'Falls' or 'Miserere' from The Mission.

Saddest when seen in theater: Saving Private Ryan (girls wept and even I welled up at the end)

That's fine. If variety is what you like, SST has lots of that.

Another movie with a sad track would be Gladiator, the elysium track in particular. Of course it seems to have any effect when watching the movie so maybe it's not that sad after all. lol.

And as BMS said so himself in the BMS Thread...

Sorry dude, couldn't resist.

Another sad track that hasn't been mentioned yet (I think) is "The Victor" from the "L.A. Confidential" soundtrack.

I'll give you a Touche on that one brotha. Like I said, you definately get some interesting variety here. Like the big-o; Never saw it, doesn't mean it's bad, Just not my style of music. Which is why I started my stream. Smile

Of COURSE you pick a soundtrack I had added to the playlist.

Big-O rules. Especially the track, "STONING".

It also had some sad tracks on it. It's worth exploring.
