You can't talk about a sad or emotionally powerful track without mentioning "Journey To The Line"!

"Who Wants To Live Forever" by Queen would be the saddest song. For the saddest score, I'd go with "Schindler's List" by John Williams.

The score for E.T. can be really emotional at the more depressing momments. "Losing E.T.", "E.T. is Dying" and the "Saying Goodbye" part of "Escape/Chase/Saying Goodbye" has some of the most powerful music ever written. Many theatres were flooded with tears thanks to John Williams' score.

The first cue that came to mind was "Death of a Soldier" by Morricone from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Absolutely heart-wrenching. Reading through previous posts, I see that Sensei suggested this, as well. *Right on*

Another composition, although not written for film, was Gorecki's Symphony No.3 (Symphony of Sorrowful Songs) that was used during the final plane crash scene in the film Fearless. I bought the CD after seeing this movie and the first time I listened to it I bawled my eyes out.

One more cue: Memories from Ben-Hur rips my heart out each time I hear it.

Reading through this thread, there is a question that just needs to be asked.

Why the hell would a guy, for fun, want to listen to a song that makes him cry?

Hey, come on now, crying is good for you! It's supposed to release all that pent up anger and frustration....

I like this cue, as well, but I wouldn't say it's a sad cue. It is very emotional and moving, but certainly not sad. I don't know, many people have mentioned this cue so maybe it's just me...

Exactly. That's what I meant, actually. I don't think there's something like "sad" or "happy" music, but music that touches you in some way and sends a shiver down your spine - or not.

It's magic.
